Quick question for everyone-

Under Education, McCombs asks you to list your GPA for upper-level courses. I have taken classes at 4 undergraduate institutions, but only 1 have I taken upper level courses (the one where my degree is from). So, what would you do for the GPA for schools where you didn't take upper level courses at?

Cheers,

I wouldn't worry about it, just put your calculated GPA for the last two years of your undergrad, whereever they may be. You will need to supply your official transcripts anyways, so if they have any questions, they can always look at those since they list the dates, etc.

Hello all!

This might have been already answered but I do have questions regarding the "rolling" admissions deadline.

I could use the weekend to tighten my essays so can anyone tell me whether there is a difference between submitting tonight (R2 deadline) or submitting say on Sunday (two days after R2 deadline).

Any responses are appreciated! Thanks!

I personally wouldn't mess with the Round 3 application deadlines. If you can get your essay in by Round 2, then go for it, unless you feel that your essay would be MUCH better if you submitted it 2 days later. How does your profile look ? If you have a very strong all around app, then you may be fine, but usually round 3 apps have a disadvantage compared to rounds I and II.

Spoke to them and they say that the deadlines are guidelines and that they review on a first-come first serve basis. So it's the difference between the people who would submit between tonight and the time I submit mine....

Quiet for me....

No admit call, no ding. I submitted on 10/29 and interviewed on 11/29. I really thought I would have a final decision by now - It's pretty frustrating.

I'm debating a call to the admissions office next week, as I'm really running up against some deadlines...

Does anyone know how strict they are on essay length? The third essay is killing me. I have it down to 581 words, although it's supposed to be 500. Is Texas a stickler for word count or can you get away with a few extra? Thanks!!

I'd cut it down. 10% over is a typical guideline but even that can be pushing it sometimes.

I doubt schools are actually counting words, but I think it's important to stay as close to the limits as possible.

Opinions vary on word leeway. Some suggest no more than 1% over and some say as much as 10%. If the school likes what you say, I don't think they will penalize you for submitting 550 on a 500 word essay. If you blatantly ignore the limit and submit a 1200 word essay, then you might piss them off.

10-20 words over might not be such a big issue but 50 + words over might be pushing it.

I would stick to the world limit: if the adcom checks the word limit and your essays are over,it will suggest that you cant follow instructions. However, there are people who follow the +/-5% rule, but I dont believe in it.

Ok thank. I guess it's time to do some serious editing!

maybemba2013,

Just as a point of reference...I was recently admitted and my third essay was just over 600 words, so I don't think you should have a problem.

Both of my other essays were almost right on the word limit. Hope this helps!
