Hi,
I made wrong selection of choice C because
1. Ignored "it".
2. Thought that the sense of purpose is better communicated thru this structure rather than thru using "and" in correct choice D ( other semi finalist).
3. Also , I was not ok with the placement of "nearly" in choice D, as I thought that "nearly" should be closer to triple rather than "expected".

Dear experts, comment on my these 3 mistakes.

Thanks in advance.

Basim.

HEY!
so I used " nearly expected " as my first split and eliminated both A and B
for the rest, I haven't noticed anything but I was looking for " expected to nearly triple" and found it in C
so I chose it!
please help me I am always doing these kinds of mistakes and can't seem to learn!
Thank you

Nearly modifies the quantity “triple” and not the expectation. Hence A & B are out.
In C, the usage of “it” in place of “consumption” brings in some redundancy. If you replace it with the word:
As part of a healthy diet, ancient grains now only account for less than 1 percent of calories consumed annually, but consumption is expected that consumption will nearly triple by the end of the decade to deliver nutrition to an additional 3 million families - Wrong
Between D & E,
Using ||ism, only D make sense.
