(1/2)x are freshman and of these, (2/5)(1/2)x are liberal arts students. Plugging in for 100, this gives you
(1/2)100(2/5)=10 students
Of these 10, 30% or 0.3 are psych majors, which gives 3 and is 3% of the total number of students (100)

At a certain college, 50 percent of the total number of students are freshmen. If 20 percent of the fresh-men are enrolled in the school of liberal arts and, of these, 30 percent are psychology majors, what percent of the students at the college are freshmen psychology majors enrolled in the school of liberal arts?

(A) 3%
(B) 6%
(C) 12%
(D) 15%
(E) 20%

We can let the total number of students = 1200.

Thus, 600 are freshman, 0.2 x 600 = 120 freshmen are enrolled in liberal arts, and of these, 120 x 0.3 = 36 are psychology majors.

Thus, 36/1200 = 0.03 = 3% are freshmen psychology majors who are enrolled in the school of liberal arts.

Answer: A

Solution: 30% of 20% of 50% of total no of students are freshmen enrolled in Psychology majors.

This implies: (30/100)*(20/100)*(50/100)* T = (3/100)*T = 3%
