Step 1: Identify the given information
- The sports team has 50 players.
- At least 3/4 of the players must receive an individual award for the team to receive an award.
- We need to find the greatest number of players who can fail to receive an individual award while still allowing the team to qualify for the award.

Step 2: Calculate the minimum number of players who must receive an award
Since at least 3/4 of the 50 players must receive an individual award:

(3/4) × 50 = 37.5

Since the number of players must be a whole number, we round up to 38 (since at least 3/4 must receive awards).

Step 3: Find the greatest number of players who can fail to receive an award
If 38 players receive awards, the remaining players do not receive awards.

Total players not receiving an award = 50 - 38 = 12

Conclusion
Answer: D (12)

what's the least number of players who must get the award?

3/4 of 50 = 75% of 50 = easy mental math → 25% = 12.5 → 75% = 37.5
But since “at least 3/4” are needed, we need more than 37.5, so minimum is 38 people awarded

Now flip it: if 38 get awards, then how many didn’t?
50 - 38 = 12

So max that can miss out is 12, and team still qualifies
