From a user I interacted with this morning: I have completed my GMAT with a score of 730 (Q50,V38) but 4 in IR. and i would like to know if this score is a good score for Harvard or Stanford?

Meanwhile, i took again the test , and had a score of 710 (Q51,V34) with 8 in IR. So i would like to know which score to use if the first IR may harm my application.

More details about my background:
36 years old with engineering background and with more than 12 years experience.

Nikhil, thanks for sharing! So I am not sure if IR is the biggest concern for this candidate when applying to M7, let alone HBS/GSB - years of work ex and age are way above average, this will be the biggest concern for the committee. I’d recommend considering MSx or other mid-career programs like USC IBEAR, Foster GEMBA, Ross Global MBA or 1 year programs

EMBA programs provides a more strategic perspective on all aspects of business (sectors and function) versus a traditional MBA that will provide more foundational information on all sectors with a focus on helping you focus on a function.

The programs I mentioned above - MSx, IBEAR are like full-time EMBA programs


Academics are a bit mediocre for school list, typically lower GPA is better with higher than average GMAT.
Work Ex is strong, leadership, multiple sectors
EC’s are good
Advice - revise school list, potentially retake GMAT or consider GRE or consider waiver schools

Academics - Adcoms can be leary of 2nd MBA and lower CGPA’s, was it right after BTech?
Work Ex - strong leadership, exposure to the business and impact
ECs - good involvement, can show passion for marketing through experiences
Schools - consider 1 year programs, especially in EU
