Cost of 2 boxes of 37 @$12.40 = 12.4*2 = $24.8

Cost of each battery in these two boxes = 24.8/74



Cost of 1 box of 74 batteries = $17.40

Cost of each battery in these two boxes = 17.40/74


Extra amount that customer paid for each battery = (24.8/74) - (17.40/74) = 7.4/74 = $0.10

Answer: option A

Cost of two boxes of 37 each = $24.80

So for 74 batteries, the customer paid $24.80 - $17.40 = $7.40 extra

Per battery, he paid 7.4/74 = $0.1 extra

Since the question gives very exact numbers, we'll go for an exact calculation.
This is a Precise approach.

The average price of a battery in the boxes of 74 is 17.4/74.
We'll defer calculation for a moment as it looks messy...
The average price of a battery in the boxes of 37 is 12.4/37 = 24.8/74.

Therefore, our customer bought a total of 74 batteries at a price of 24.8/74 per battery for a total of $24.8
This was instead of buying 74 batteries at a price of 17.4/74 per battery for a total of $17.4
In total, our customer paid an extra 24.8 - 17.4 = $7.4 This gives 7.4/74 = $0.1 per battery.

(A) is our answer.
