OA: B
Meaning: The sentence implies that because of environmental concerns and high landfill costs, communities recycle 3x the amount of waste that they used to 5 years ago
A: Usage of had is incorrect as the meaning goes off. The part where the community used to generate x amount of waste 5 years back is not captured
C:
i) Same as A
D) was distorts the meaning just like had
E) than is a comparison marker more or less should be there for correct comparison

A. triple the waste that they had sentence makes no sense without any comparison marker

B. three times as much waste as they did Correct

C. as much as three times the waste as it had incorrect because of 'it'.

D. three times as much waste as there was changes the meaning, the comparison is between the recycled waste today and the recycled waster earlier and not the recycled waste today and the total weight earlier.

E. triple the waste than they did sentence makes no sense without any comparison marker

Because of increased awareness of environmental concerns and the mounting cost of operating a landfill, many small communities recycle triple the waste that they had five years ago.

A. triple the waste that they had

B. three times as much waste as they did

C. as much as three times the waste as it had

D. three times as much waste as there was

E. triple the waste than they did

Anyone please help me with difference between "triple vs three times"? when should we use triple and when to use three times.???

A. triple the waste that they had
"triple the waste " isn't really conveying the meaning in best ways. furthermore "had" conveys the meaning the communities at some point stopped generating waste somehow? and now it's triple??? quite confusing

B. three times as much waste as they did
seems good. quantity is compared fairly.

C. as much as three times the waste as it had
"it" has nothing to refer back and make establish a parallelism .

D. three times as much waste as there was
"there" where???

E. triple the waste than they did
"triple the waste" same issue as A

B conveys the meaning better.

Split: Had vs Did vs Was.

Recycle is an action that is done, so DID is more favorable than HAD and WAS.
Left with B and E.

Split: Three times/triple the waste.
THAN requires a comparison word with "er". (Higher than, Faster than etc.)

Choose B. Next.

A. triple the waste that they had

B. three times as much waste as they did

C. as much as three times the waste as it had

D. three times as much waste as there was

E. triple the waste than they did
