Hi Shubham (@shubhammah24):
We agree overall with bb about the AdCom viewpoint:
Q: Can someone tell me if sports such as billiards and Table Tenis are considered by the M7 and Insead adcom as extracurriculars. And how much weightage do they have?
A: Yes, they can be if you have actually put in the time and effort. If they are just past times that you participate in casually, then they won't carry much weight. If, for example, you play with friends when you have free time that would be a nice talking point in an interview but won't be considered an important credential. On the other hand, if you are in tournaments or coach others or run a team, then you are talking about something bigger than just a hobby. That shows dedication, skill, teamwork, etc. It's all what you make of these activities and how important they are relative to the other things you do personally and professionally.
Q: Also, how do they assess my capabilities in them objectively?
A: They will assess your capabilities like they do any other accomplishment. They will look at your resume, anything you list in the application itself, and what you write in your essays (if applicable.) If you have any quantifiable achievements, that is certainly important to list. It's a subjective process so outside of pretty much just the GMAT/GRE.
Q: If possible, please list some other extracurriculars that are sought after.
A: Community-based/leadership activities are highly touted. Volunteer work is always viewed favorably. It's very open-ended. The AdCom likes to see that you are making a significant effort and having an impact in whatever it is that interests you.
