(A) 6

B covers 12-mile in 3 hours..
Now she Half's her speed, so she would cover these 12-mile in 3*2hour
Thus if one loop in 6 hours, she will cover two loops in 2*6=12h

Solution

Given:
• Brenda walked a 12-mile scenic loop in 3 hours

To find:
• How long Brenda would take to walk the same scenic loop two more time, by reducing her speed to half

Approach and Working:
• Previous speed of Brenda = $$\frac{12}{3}$$ mph = 4 mph
• Therefore, present speed of Brenda = $$\frac{4}{2}$$ mph = 2 mph

As she will cover the same distance two more times, the total distance to cover = 12 * 2 miles = 24 miles
• Therefore, time taken = $$\frac{24}{2}$$ hours = 12 hours

Hence, the correct answer is option C.

Hi Experts,

Doesn't this question say two MORE times? So effectively, he is covering it thrice. So answer should be 18?

The question initially says "Brenda walked a 12-mile scenic loop in 3 hours." It means she has already covered it once and then she reduced her speed. Now it is asking what time she will take to cover the loop two times, with the reduced speed.
