I reckon it is yet another way of increasing yield. With a very early deadline, they can bet their R1 applicant pool this year is more serious about Ross than that of the previous years. With a Nov 1 deadline, people would apply to HBS/Chicago/Wharton/MIT etc before throwing in an app to Ross since the deadline is later. The best among this group of people when they get into the M7 usually give up their admit to Ross. For instance, helg applied to other schools and threw in an app to Ross as an after thought. In the end he got into GSB and gave up on Ross.
By advancing the dates up, candidates will be more self-selecting and as a result Ross may end up with an even higher yield.
