A few weeks ago I was researching the timing for the schools I applied to, and found the following online about Columbia's RD deposit deadline:

"2. What is the deposit deadline for regular applicants?

Deposit deadlines for Regular Decision applicants this year will be as follows:
For all applicants admitted up through February 18, 2010 the deposit deadline is Thursday, March 4.
For all applicants admitted from February 19 through April 2, 2010 the deposit deadline is Friday, April 16.
All applicants admitted after April 2 will have 2 weeks from their admission notification to submit their deposit."

Problem is, I don't remember the source, and I've been googling like crazy and I can't find it anymore.
Does anybody know anything about this?

I googled and believe you found it from Christina's reponse on 11/6/09 from Business Week's "Ask Columbia B School Admissions Forum"
Guess any of us who hear from here on out have until April 16 to decide.

Was anyone here asked to do a second interview, or know of anyone who was for CBS?

My application went under review on Jan 21 - its been one month and I have heard NOTHING. What does this mean? Should I call the school to check if something's wrong? Anyone else in the same boat?

yeahh you should probably call them to find out. they could just be behind from all the extra applicants but ask for all of us who applied around that time as well if you could :P

i know many people are curious

Drew, Alpha & nsidelnik, sorry to hear about your dings. Every single one of you presented a pretty strong profile and it does seem like this year is uber-competitive.

I'm in the same boat as some of the other folks waiting to hear from the school. My app has been under review since 2/2 and no word since. I ended up calling the admissions office inquiring about whats really going on. The guy checked on the app status and told me what I already knew - its under review. As fas as timelines, I was told to just "hang tight".

Been really nervous about this waiting issue.

For who may care, here is my profile:

UG: Chemical & Biochemical Engineering (Top 10 public school). Not the greatest GPA (solid alternative transcript)
GMAT: 740 (50Q, 40V)
Good relevant ECs
4 years WE in Engineering (Energy sector)/Construction
MBA full time focus: Entrepreneurship in Clean Energy sector

I'm a bit of a late submitter who just got an invite.....

Submitted Jan 7 (11:55PM), Under Review February 2, Interview Invitation February 22nd

3.2 / 700 / 32yo / Military Pilot (U.S.)

I think those of us who submitted after January 6th are really on the bottom of the box and did ourselves a disservice. I'm a BIG FAN of the school, seriously considered ED, and unfortunately I was travelling on the 5th, 6th and 7th - all my application needed was some small edits. Note to future applicants - just turn the damn thing in BEFORE the reviews start! Treat it like a deadline, and pretend you get a $100 gift certificate to "Total Wine" for every day you are early......

Anyways, I sweated this one out too, and I have no doubt that several more invites are coming our way. Good luck everyone!

I think usually there is a 3 week gap after application goes under review. But I clearly agree that those who submit early always have an advantage. Does CBS has an admissions blog? I searched online but could not find any.

So if applying later puts you at a disadvantage, and people who submitted on the 7th have been invited for an interview, would that mean that people who submitted on the 6th and are still waiting are essentially waiting for a ding? I hate looking too far into things, but this would seem logical.

In the same boat, applied Jan.6, and I haven't heard yet.

If they already have a decision, seems strange that they would release dings for some and not others. Maybe those of us still waiting have gone to a third tie-breaker reader? Or maybe we were in the really slow pile?

I don't know why is it like that, but I am getting really blue thinking about it.
So no, stop thinking about it, and think of... ice cream.

I agree with that...if they had a decision on our applications they'd let us know (submitted Jan 6).

I was one of those who seemingly took a bit longer to get an interview invite than others. The best rationale I've come up with is that the first person to review my app responded with either a "maybe" or "no", so there was a delay as it went to the second reviewer, who either said "maybe" or "interview". The people who applied around the same time as me and got interview invites first, were probably given the green light from the FIRST reviewer, instead of the second. Either way, I think at least 2 people will review each app, but that's my best guess at this black box. No help at all I'm sure, but we might as well get our $250 worth on speculation, right?

Apparently those that applied at or right after the review period are still in the running. I applied on 1/6 and received an interview invitation last night (around 7:30pm EST oddly enough). I had pretty much written Columbia off as a ding, but there is still hope. Here's my profile:

M / 25 / White / 3.6 / 710 / 2 yrs IB M&A & 2 yrs PE / Strong ECs

Good luck to all.
