If you get a subsequent promotion after you submit your application, what is the best way to address this? Should I send in my promotion official letter? Or just a note stating that I was promoted. I think the first one would look better.

I would only notify the admissions committee with a short note if the promotion is significant (i.e. 15-20%+ raise in pay, sigificantly different job responsibilities, etc.) If it is just a mere title change/small bump in pay, I wouldn't do it.
I finally received my interview invite. I applied a few hours prior to the ED deadline and my app went “under review” by the end of October. For those who are still waiting, there is still hope.
Guys - advice required! I submitted yesterday and my status just changed to "printed and sent for review".
But my final recommender hasn't yet submitted! Worried my app will get buried with everyone else's until they start reviewing RD in January, and will then look incomplete.
Should I call them? And if so how, since the contact me section of the website only has an email form!
thanks for teh support britguy! just going to submit by the weekend also tho my recommenders will take another week! good luck with sorting out the reco bit - am sure itll be fine!
this reminds me of some previous advice not to submit before recs are in for CBS in particular. maybe this is why! oh well, I'll probably shoot them a mail and get it sorted. sure it's not the end of the world!
Comparing CBS's essays with that of other schools it seems that there is less opportunity to cover everything you want. What are peoples thoughts on using the optional essay? I'm conscious of only using it for value added information. Is it strictly to cover off weaknesses in your app or can you use it almost as a seperate essay to highlght some strength/motivation etc...thoughts?

Columbia's optional essay is more flexible than the other schools - some schools specify that you should use the optional essay for a weakness only.
Hey also PM me if you down the path of getting an interview - I have some ideas.

Hey Sapphireka... will def do. I'm applying for RD though so it might be a month or more before I hear back from CBS!
sorry buddy, read through it quickly. I would expect it to be about 1 week before RD starts getting reviewed, so I would say they are rushing to get all decisions out the door before the holidays.
I am close to submitting my RD application. When I press submit, and check over my final PDF, a lot of my responses are cut-off. (However they appear in the text boxes where I typed them).
I decided to wait until the guy submitted. When he did I immediately got a status update so I guess it's all fine. If nothing changed I'd have called them to politely check that the 2nd rec was printed.
In my case I deliberately discussed stories from work /community/ personal to showcase the well roundednesa. I don't think you should use optional Essay to cover more ground

From reading some interviews with the adcom it appears that the general consensus is that unless there is a good reason to use it that it shouldn't be used as an additional essay topic. I guess that's part of the challenge, to weave as much into the limited space you have.
