Back in R1 when I was waiting to hear from Booth, I made the conscious decision to stop reading gmatclub and all the other MBA related websites. The only thing I allowed myself to do was periodically check the Booth admissions portal. I realised that after I hit submit there was absolutely nothing I could do to improve my chances and visiting sites like this one was only driving up my stress levels.

Frankly, I think the best thing anyone can do is to just forget that you've applied, and carry on with life as if you'd never even thought about an MBA; at least in the periods you're waiting to hear back from the school.

easier said than done! sure it's anxiety provoking, but the waiting is also kinda fun. it's like watching your baseball team fight for survival in the playoffs (or in my case, to try and snag a wild-card slot). i was wl'ed at two schools last year and i'm back for more. bring it.

i'm totally with you. anyway, time is flying... it seems like yesterday when I was sending my last-minute app to hbs (the last one...), hopefully we'll make it through this successfully.

on another subject... I did not receive an email telling me when my app went complete. I submitted 1/4 and have no idea when it happened. I checked 1/10 and it still marked submitted, 1/14 and it was marked complete. do you guys know how to retrieve the exact date?

My app went complete yesterday, so they are still definitely working through them. The way I picture it is as a giant stack of apps that they keep taking a few off of to read each day.

Also, I agree with you all. I find this process enjoyable and kind of fun. I was completely bent out of shape R1, but going through a big ding has helped give me a bit more perspective. The fact that all Booth news comes at 9:05am CST also helps.

it is really strange as some people who submitted on 1/3 went complete on 1/5
obviously there is no particular order

Mine just went from submitted to received. Submitted on 1/5. How long does it take from received to complete typically?

Mine took a few days. I don't think there is any rhyme or reason to submitted/received.

At one of the Booth events I attended they said that when your app gets reviewed is completely random.

More detailed version of what I remember:
Essentially, your app is batched together along with a load of other apps. That batch is then given to an adcom person to read. They want the batches to contain as diverse a set of applications as possible. So there is no way to predict when your app will go 'complete' and you shouldn't read anything into when your app gets reviewed.

My assumptions:
I think the idea is for the first reader to judge each application on its own merits, and not to start comparing it to other applications. I suppose that if apps were just printed in the order they were received then it's possible to get batches with people all from the same region (think timezones on deadline day). That might make it hard for the reader to stay objective about each application and not start ranking them against each other.

The question is, in previous terms, did some people who submit early/go complete early, get invites later?
