Man, I'm in this (very fortunate) situation and I've been agonizing over the decision. It's full-ride at Booth vs. HBS at this point. I was 90% sure I was going to go to HBS until I found out about my fellowship. Now I'm back to 50-50. HBS is a tough name to ignore but Booth is amazing as well. It's just tough that at my company when I mention Booth, I get a "what school is that?" response. My company is very HBS/Kellogg oriented.
That's a tough decision, but you should be comforted by knowing that neither choice is wrong. If you go to Booth, you'll have awesome opportunities, a great education, and the relief of having no student loans (unless you need cash for cost of living). If you go to HBS, you'll have arguably the best brand name and access to the very best opportunities. I think your decision really depends on your goals. If you can achieve you goals at both schools, it's probably best to take the full-ride at Booth and enjoy the next two years in Chicago. Booth is an awesome school, but I think we can all appreciate the temptation to choose HBS on brand name alone. My alum interviewer for Booth, a private equity guy, was actually pretty dissatisfied with the Booth brand name outside of Chicago. He said he really enjoyed his time at the school, but the flexibility of the curriculum makes it difficult for employers to know what they're buying. It was strange to listen to my interviewer talk about his dissatisfaction with the school, but he made it pretty obvious that he'd have gone to HBS if he had the chance. I don't think he's a great example of a Booth graduate, but he has a perspective worth considering. You should probably PM rhyme for the best advice.

Good luck! The next two years of your life are going to be very exciting at either school :)

Thanks for your thoughts! The problem is that near term, I know I can achieve my goals out of either school so Booth makes a ton of sense. However, I wonder if 10 years down the line, if I want to change careers again, if I'll miss not having HBS to open more doors for me and if that really is worth the incremental cost.

HBS all the way. Look at its distinguished alumni base...can't beat it. There's no school that comes close to it.

If you're talking about brand recognition, that's absolutely true. As far as education goes or the perceived value that recruiters consider the degree... there's much more parity amongst the top schools.

Well, at HBS, you tap into a much larger network of alumni, which isn't as big at Booth. For me, it would be a no-brainer... HBS all the way.

Still shows received for me. I just sent an email to adcom. Hoping to hear something soon.

Sent an email reminder too. Just gotta trust that Booth is not exaggerating when they say that when applicants hear back is not a reflection of the strength of their application. Unless our being "received" doesn't reflect reality, that should mean our application hasn't even been physically placed in a file for adcom's review. Maybe they just have a monster backlog, and our file still resides in their database, collecting virtual dust, having only been given a cursory look to confirm that we submitted something that resembles an application.

Any reapplicants recevied interview invite? Mine went complete on 1/11. Yday somebody reported that his application went complete on 1/14 and received invite. So it looks like adcom reviewed my application and took a decision. I showed decent progress and good essays. Disappointed.

Yea... on the same note, I just heard back from adcom and they said they are still processing the applications. It was a brief email, so I'm not exactly sure what exactly "processing the applications" means other than they may be a bit backlogged and still have a lot of applications to go through.

Would you go to Booth over Wharton if they offered you a 100% scholarship?

haha I would think thats HIGHLY unlikely to happen! But it would be a tough decision to make for sure.

Congrats! When did you hear about your fellowship? I was given the impression that I was considered for one, but that decisions had not been made for all of them yet.

Why do you think a larger alumni base is better when you're already dealing with tens of thousands of people at the highest levels of government and business?

Also, for what it's worth..Chicago Booth reports having 43000 active alumni while Harvard reports >40000.

Reapplicant here. I went complete on 1/14. I haven't heard anything yet. Slowly losing hope. I too thought that I demonstrated growth etc. Only thing to do is wait and see.

why being so pessimistic? it's not like any apps completed after 2/14 have received an interview. Plus there are clearly examples of apps with early completion dates and invites late in the game from R1.

I am guessing reapps may be treated bit differently.

Hey all,

Just wanted to add my voice to those saying "don't lose hope." I'm in the same boat as some of you. My application went complete 1/14 and no interview invite yet. However, I'm feeling all right about it. This is why:

Interviewed at Wharton R1 (although dinged)
Interviewed w/ Sloan R1
Interviewing w/ Columbia tomorrow
Interviewing w/ Yale in Feb.

Of all those schools, I thought my Booth application was, by far, the strongest. Maybe I'm wrong about this, but my Booth essays were the last ones I worked on of that group (except for Yale) and far more refined than those for W/MIT/Columbia. I also think I conveyed my enthusiasm for the program quite well, and many of my proofreaders commented on that. Booth interviews at least as high a percentage of applicants as W and Columbia and definitely higher than Sloan. I know, I know, the application process is a crap shoot and an interview at one school doesn't guarantee one anywhere else....I just think it's too early too worry about this when we have no idea what REALLY goes on inside the Booth AdCom black box.

So, I hope this helps at least one of you relax and enjoy your weekend a little bit more. Best of luck to everyone, whatever your situation!

I'm a Chilean applicant and I'm sure that they haven't sent invitations to anyone from my country. It's very weird that not a single Chilean has recieved an invitation and that makes me keep my calm because it means that the options are still intact for everyone. Just relax and wait until the last day!
Good luck

Come on Chile isn't that small! Unless you have some inside information how can you be sure no one from Chile has been invited!?

I can't tell you! lol kidding...
every year about 15 Chileans apply to Booth and the 90% of them (including me) prepare the application process in an institute where they teach GMAT, TOEFL and prepares you for the essays and interviews, so everyone knows who is applying to which school. There might be 2 or 3 applicants that do the process on their own, but generally they are not a representative group. I've also been in touch with the Chilean students at Booth (they are 11) and I don't know how they always know who recieved and invitation and who were accepted and this year they haven't recieved any information about that.
This year the number of Chilean applicants to MBAs was extraordinary low, because many "posible applicants" are now working in the goverment. The alumni of CBS here are known as "Chicago Boys" and they made economical reforms back in the 80's and 90's so the prestigious that the University has here is enormous...but that is a totally different story :)
