Hello everyone,
Just found this thread. Wish I had found it earlier. Need some expert opinion. I am a medical doctor and looking for a career in investment banking. I am a EU citizen but would be happy to work in any major city of Europe or US post MBA as long as I get a foot into the IB. Which school do you think is more likely to help me get the foot in? LBS or Chicago Booth?

I would apply to both schools and others with good reputation for placement in IB. As with any good B School, applying does not mean you will graduate from it. I live at London and both LBS and Booth has very strong placement record in IB here.

Afterall, London is one of the major financial capitals... so you ought to get an opportunity at London from any decent Top-15 school. Ditto for NY or other EU centres.

All the best.

If you want to work anywhere outside Europe, Booth should definitely be your choice. You should consider LBS if you are planning to stay in Europe, especially UK.

I have a friend who is a doctor and did his MBA from Michigan Ross. He says it was a great experience. But yes, of LBS and Booth, definitely Booth.

Exactly the same happened to me today...
I see that you are a fellow member of the "Just in case" cohort. There were 14 members in last year's cohort and I checked how they did. One got in. The rest were dinged and waitlisted. The good news is that 3 of the 8 that were waitlisted were eventually admitted (2 at the end of Round 2 and 1 at the end of Round 3). So, 4 for 14 is closer to the overall admit rate.

So, at the end of the day, we're in the same boat as everyone else. We're just at the back of the boat.

Anyway, this is my favourite time right now. No pressure, nothing to do. Time for hope, time to dream ... this is "not-dinged" time!!!

Just completed my off-campus interview last night. It was very relaxed, maybe too relaxed. She was a recent alum and she was very friendly but we didn't really click since our backgrounds were so different. Mostly typical questions.

Walk me through your resume.
Asked a leadership question about a specific part of my resume.
What is your leadership style?
Why career switch?
Why Booth?
What extracurricular activities are you involved in?

Then I asked her questions about her experience at Booth. It was very quick, about 30 minutes. It definitely felt like a "dead meat" interview. I wasn't as crisp as I would have liked to have been since I spent so much time preparing for weird behavioural questions.

Oh well, as part of the "Just in case" interview cohort, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a waitlist status update on December 15!!

Exactly the same happened to me today...

Guys, gave my interview last day with an alum in India. The interview went well except for the fact that at one point of time during the interview instead of GSB, I , by mistake, told ISB. :(

The interview was mostly based on my resume. It was conducted in a coffee shop and there were some distraction in between the interview.

At the end of the interview, the interviewer wished me luck for Chicago as well as for my other apps !!

I just got the feeling that probably he feel I am not fit for Booth :(

For those that saw, "In progress Interview Completed" as their status, has it changed? Mine has been that way for over a week now and I'm not sure if I should be concerned. Does it ever change to just complete?

Thanks.

My status says the same thing. I don't see why so many of you worry about it so much. You did your job, now all you have to do is sit back and wait for the positive answer. :-D

Jaimaa, good to hear your interview went well. But try not to read between lines at this point, it can only get you all worked up. Just put yourself in your interviewer's shoes for a bit and try to think about what you would have said at the end of the meeting ... I am sure yours would sound similar to his/hers :-)

Good luck!

My status is still the same too; I don't want to conjecture about what's going on. Though I don't think that there is much reason to bother (and frankly, even if there would be any reason to worry, we can do just that - worry - and nothing else :) ) Our interviewer has sent the report...we just have to waiiiiiiiiiiit...

Hm, I was interviewed a week ago on campus, and my status is still "Invited to Intervew". I wonder if I should call to check.

My status is also the same.

I wouldn't worry as the yr 2 interviewers have a lot to do. As the adcomm creates the schedule (unlike the alum interviews, arranged by the students and alum external of the school), I'm assuming there is some accountability set on the students to complete in a timely fashion.

All of our official statuses are "Invite to Interview". You have to click the "Interviews" link on the left, then click the "View your interview schedule" link on that page. The status you see there is what we're discussing.

What are people's thoughts on Booth's preference for recommendations? Is it vital to get a different perspective through the second letter? I feel sticking to my two professional recommenders would be safer but at the same time Im not sure whether this would hurt my application.

Unless you have only been working at one place, I would suggest sticking to two professional recommendations, one from your previous workplace and one from the current place you're at. I've a long history of community service (13 years) but I still chose two professional recommenders simply because I think work experience is more central to my candidacy for business school than community service and extra curricular activities. Those are 'nice to haves' and help to add texture and dimension to one's personality, in my opinion but ultimately you're planning to get an MBA because you are on top of your game professionally and need the career boost.

Hey guys, I emailed Chicago Admissions about the "Interview completed In Progress" status. I received a feedback stating that the status will remain the way it is until final decision. Hope that helps!
