The program originally served as a solely undergraduate institution until 1916, when academically oriented research masters and later doctoral-level degrees were introduced. In 1916, the school was renamed the School of Commerce and Administration. Soon after in 1922, the first doctorate program was offered at the school. In 1932, the school was rechristened as the School of Business. The School of Business offered its first Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 1935. A landmark decision was taken by the school at about this time to concentrate its resources solely on graduate programs, and accordingly, the undergraduate program was phased out in 1942. In 1943, the school launched the first ever Executive MBA program. The school was renamed to Graduate School of Business (or more popularly, the GSB) in 1959, a name that it held till 2008. During the later half of the twentieth century, the business school was instrumental in the development of the Chicago School, an economic philosophy focused on free-market, minimal government involvement, due to faculty and student interaction with members of the university's influential Department of Economics. Other innovations by Chicago Booth include initiating the first PhD program in business (1920), founding the first academic business journal (1928), offering the first Executive MBA (EMBA) program (1943), and for offering the first weekend MBA program (1986). Students at the school founded the National Black MBA Association (1972), and Chicago Booth is the only U.S. business school with permanent campuses on three continents: Asia (2000), Europe (1994), and North America (1898). Academic Concentrations: Students in the Full-time MBA, Executive MBA, and Part-time MBA programs can elect to concentrate in one or more areas of study, although some concentrations' required coursework may necessitate schedule modifications for students enrolled in the Part-time program. I interviewed with an adcom member on campus, and when we discussed the next steps she said that they try to call everyone the day before the official emails, but they don't like to leave voicemails and sometimes don't get to everyone. I assume she meant only admits.

do you guys think they bother calling people in Asia at all? given that by 9am chicago time it would already be 11pm in hong kong and even later in korea/japan
does anyone know/has read in previous threads about this?

Hi Carro, I have similar thinking as you in terms of healthcare oriented classes. You're probably not going to find too many in the Booth curriculum or course catalog. Booth's "healthcare concentration" is served by the Certificate in Health Administration and Policy, a joint program offered by the School of Social Service Administration. I'm considering applying round 2, looking to get into healthcare/biotech after graduating. I am trying to locate a course catalog to see what electives Booth offers that relate to these industries, since it does not have a healthcare major/concentration as other bschools do. Thanks for the response. I did see the certificate through GPHAP, and read that you must complete 4 courses: 2 required, and 2 "approved" health electives. I emailed the director, Laura Botwinick, for a list of those approved electives in order to see what is available. I'll let you know if I hear back.

Ok, so does anyone know how to update the contact no. on the app?

I mailed Booth adcom and was told that it must be done thru the online system. I searched high & dry but couldn't find any link using which the contact no. could be updated. I could only see a link for address updates. I mailed the ad com again and got a response saying that I should use the "Edit account link". Anyone knows where this link is present?

So, this seems overcomplicated, but here's how you can do it:

1) Go to: https://www.chicagobooth.edu/fulltime/index.aspx
2) On the left side of the page look for the "Login to Booth Connect" link.
3) Sign-in and you'll be re-directed to a Admissions page -- on the left side under "My Profile" you'll see your name and a link that says "Edit". Go there and you'll be able to update contact info.

Thanks BStand.

You know, I did update it over here, but I really don't think this is the correct place. The reason being that the Booth Connect page is not linked with the application at all. On this page, you will see a link "Return to Application". If you click on this link, it takes you to last year's application portal. I know this well since I am a reapplicant and can see my last year's app here.

That's why I have my doubt if this is indeed the correct place where the update needs to be done...

Any other thoughts?

I agree with sonyremote.

In my application, I had somehow missed out mentioning the "no of weeks per year" that I volunteer at an orphanage. I also had made a minor mistake in one of the sub-sections. So, after worrying sick for 48hrs, I finally called the admissions office and explained my predicament to the lady on the phone. She asked me for my full name, was gone for about 2 mins, and then came back on the phone saying that she had made the necessary adjustments! Just like that! Done.

They are really amazing and very helpful people. I think if you just mail them with your latest contact details, they will do the needful for you.

Did anyone else receive the "Meet Booth Students in Cities Around the Globe" e-mail about an hour ago?

While I know it was distributed to anyone who signed up for the Booth email list, it's still a cruel joke for those of us waiting for news next week.

Nothing gets the blood pumping quite like seeing an email from "Chicago Booth Full-Time Admissions" pop-up less than a week before the notification deadline.

I understand your point, but the AdCom also needs to inform that there will be events this December in several cities. It wasn't clear the subject of the email?

On the other hand, you should know that no one will receive updates regarding the application status until the day before the deadline.

Totally agree that AdCom needs to inform everyone of December events (esp. potential R2 applicants). And, yes, the subject of the email made the content clear, but I saw the address before I saw the subject line.

Regardless, my post was really meant to be more ironic in tone given the anxiety that applicants are feeling at this point in the cycle. Irony never comes across as well in the virtual world.

Alright, now back to trying to be productive at work.

BStand - I had the same thought, especially since the event being held in my city is the day after the notification date. It would be cruel if they allowed people to sign up for an event held after the date on which they are going to be rejected.

Is it a sign that I am already ding and therefore they just didn't match my score report with my app?
