Question about the Columbia application -

There is an option to upload a picture of yourself. They don't specify what kind of picture it should be, just that it should be copied into Word and uploaded.

Anyone have any insight into what kind of picture they are looking for? Is there any upside/downside to uploading the picture?

Thanks

I can't imagine that the picture will sway your application one way or another unless you do something incredibly dumb like posting a picture of you doing a keg stand.

I'm gonna upload a picture of me dressed as the Fruit of the Loom's purple grapes. That will really show them what I can offer the program. Either that or one of my post marathon pics with my finisher's medal. If all else fails, I'm breaking out the bathing suit shots.

While I didn't use a picture in my application, I think the primary focus with the picture is to connect a face with a name and help to personify your paper application. I think its easier to imagine you in the class when adcoms can picture your face in a seat rather than some obscure set of facts about you!

Keeping that in mind, I'd say anything that allows them to picture you in their heads and remember your by your face instead of just your name is accomplishing the goal of the photo.

it's approaching 2 weeks after interview for me as well, in turmoil! I live in Asia so whenever the phone rings at night I jump.

For interview questions, they are basically the questions poste don clearadmit. Mine interview went smoothly, every question was one from the clearadmit forum. Definitely review that before you go in.

Grats to those who got in! I harassed my recommenders again today about their status. I'm still finishing up essay #2... finished 1 and 3 already.

I think i "finished" an essay and think its great... then a couple of days later I think its terrible and re-write over and over and over.... is anyone having these problems? The re-writes tend to help but I dont know. I am having two people look at them, one is a columbia graduate the other is attending a non-CBS columbia graduate program, but they are giving me mixed messages sometimes.

Wow, its really crazy that some of you guys might find out you've been accepted to the Class of 2014 before the Class of 2013 even starts! Best of luck all!

How did you receive the invitiation? Direct email, "application status has changed" email, or phone call?

I received an 'Application Status Change' e-mail, followed by a formal interview invitation/instructions e-mail.

I know for RD the earlier you apply the better, but is the same true of ED? E.g. if i apply to ED by the deadline are my chances much less then if i had applied for ED in July? And if thats so, are you better off applying to RD in Mid October then applying to ED on the deadline?

Hi - I have the same question as above... any comments?

I think I spent about 100hours on everything.

However, this was my first application and there was a lot of stuff (i.e. LOR packets and lots of brainstorming) included in that number that I won't have to repeat for my next apps.
