My application status says the following:

Your Regular Decision application will be placed under review in December 2011.

So they won't be reviewing until December? Is this common? In case it matters, submitted on 10/17.

Yes, it is common. RD is not reviewed until after all ED applications have been reviewed. All of the other RD applicants have gotten the same message.

^Since the admissions process is rolling, decisions should be sent out once they are made.

So I wouldn't expect there to be a certain date where a big batch of rejections is sent out.

That's exactly the mentality I had with the process. Its rolling admissions guys! If you haven't gotten dinged yet, it means you're still in the running. Unlike at other schools who "batch" their dings, where you could possibly assume that the longer you go w/o an update means the more likely you are to get dinged (or rather, have already been dinged but just don't know it yet), all that it means at CBS is that they haven't made up their mind yet. So stop setting these arbitrary dates for yourself because they'll just come and go without any real significance.

Hang in there guys & gals!

Hey Guys

Just wanted to wish all of you good luck for week ahead. Hopefully we all get the calls we've been waiting for.

On a side note if you get dinged from CBS what is everyone's second choice. As time passes I find myself having to come to terms with completing a second application and just wanted to check out other options.

All the best

to be honest, I fell in love with this school on first visit itself. No second options for me. I am willing to wait and reapply if I get dinged!!!

Mutiny!

Ermiz, I'm not going to lie and say I'm not thinking of plan B, but I'd hate to see people sulking on plan B when they don't even know yet. I hope that's not the case for you and I wish you a lot of luck on your app. To answer your question though: I haven't thought of any other schools. And no, I'm not like kkkatl (btw, I really hope that doesn't stand for KKK Atlanta, but I guess it is what it is yo) where I absolutely fell in love with the school. I don't drop L-bombs that easily, ask my ex!

Since you're interested in entrepreneurship, I'm going to assume you've measured the opp cost of two years off plus the $ cost (or rand), as opposed to starting a business time=zero. If I don't get in, I'm going to look at the job market and look into starting my own business/ngo.

To maybe turn the thread on a more positive note and echo triple-K-Hotlanta, Columbia is the only program I was comfortable with in terms of fit. Columbia sat down with us (round table event), got to know us, listened to us, etc. I felt like they were giving us a certain respect, like we (the applicants) know best about our career plan and have the ability to make things happen for ourselves. I read somewhere that Columbia doesn't "hold hands" and I liked that, I felt like I was free to choose my own path. Or I don't know, maybe that's just the tone of the New York (love that too), god I miss it.

Plus, I'm 29, at other events, you had some green folks asking how the school compares to H-Bomb or stupid questions like that. Second plus I went to a few admissions events at other schools and I felt like I was being cheerleaded into applying.

Anybody else? Would be interested in hearing other folks' views as I'm sure there are some people who probably disagree about what I saw/appreciate in C-Bomb.

Cheers, G/L to everyone

A new week, a new reason for optimism. Happy Halloween. Hope we all get some scary (pun intended) good news.

If you really wanted to be in NYC, there's an obvious second option -- but it's no Columbia. I must admit that it's been extremely hard trying to focus on another app while you're stuck in limbo.

Same here - Columbia or bust. Definitely echo all of the things gargamel had to say as well.

I also applied EA to Tuck, as it is non-binding. Such a great place, have said earlier i hope they ding me. I've also succumbed and applied to HBS and Wharton. They were easy enough to apply to by using CBS essays as base. I will transfer my $6k deposit on Thursday.. Will be great to part with some cash I don't really have!

I only applied to HBS other than Columbia and that was just because I hadn't received the admit from Columbia by the HBS deadline. Now I put so much work into the HBS app and paid the app fee, so I feel like I might as well go through with it. Best case I can use it as leverage to get finaid, or get a really good finaid package from HBS...I am starting to stressout about the finaid portion of this, getting a bad feeling about what I will get from Columbia.. Still feels kind of weird though...

On another note, went to the Diversity Connect event this weekend and it was great!!!! And I won a application fee waiver during a raffle at the event!! how awesome is that!! $250 back in my pocket!

I did the same with Tuck. Being a re-applicant this year myself, I was focused on hedging bets. I got CBS in early enough and now just waiting on a final decision. In case it did not work out again, I had to look at other options and finishing my R1 apps tomorrow. Waiting as long as possible for CBS before submitting my application.

Ill probably take a short break then start working on R2 applications. I figure its good to stay in application mode then try to restart after a long lay-off.

Good luck to everyone else waiting this week. Hopefully there is a mass accept/interview invites push....

Still kinda just curious about HBS, they would have to absolutely blow my socks off to get me not to go to Columbia. Plus, I already bought TWO columbia sweatshirts, so I pretty much have my heart set. Still feels kind of weird though...
