I only applied to HBS other than Columbia and that was just because I hadn't received the admit from Columbia by the HBS deadline. Now I put so much work into the HBS app and paid the app fee, so I feel like I might as well go through with it. Best case I can use it as leverage to get finaid, or get a really good finaid package from HBS...I am starting to stressout about the finaid portion of this, getting a bad feeling about what I will get from Columbia.. Still kinda just curious about HBS, they would have to absolutely blow my socks off to get me not to go to Columbia. Plus, I already bought TWO columbia sweatshirts, so I pretty much have my heart set. Still feels kind of weird though...

On another note, went to the Diversity Connect event this weekend and it was great!!!! And I won a application fee waiver during a raffle at the event!! how awesome is that!! $250 back in my pocket!

Damn, I forgot that was this weekend! I was meant to go to that.. crap.

Did you get an interview from HBS last wednesday? I heard most of them went out then, with some this wed and some next. I've crossed it off my list of schools mentally. The thing with HBS is that it's HBS... Which would make it difficult to turn it down.

I did not get an invite last wednesday, hard for me to write it off since its pretty much the only other thing I have out there. Im focusing more on applying to scholarships now though. I feel like im still in application mode so its been an easy transition.

I wouldn't put too much emphasis on your interview. I was also dinged today, w.out intvw, and i was interviewed and deferred last year. Really liked cbs but cest la'vie, hopefully have better luck with other apps!

i had no news since my submission on the 5th of October... And I am out... Honnestly after spending days and days on preparing the Gmat, the toefl, paying to get. Sworn translation for my transcripts, on writing those essays, on finalazing every details of the application, i feel very disappointed to be dinged without any interview nor any explanation. I feel like i sponsorised Columbia with my 250$ without getting any acknowledgment for it...)... Anyway, i am sponsorised by my company for an other Business school. I wish you a lot of success in your life and such as it was written in the economist in 2009 : "the decline of MBA will cut-off the supply of bullshit at the source" ... At least it makes me smiling. Sorry to hear the bad news guys, a real bloodbath today. I know it really stings - I was denied without interview last year and deferred this year. Kinda feels like a few hundred hours of hard work down the drain. Even worse is the heartache of rejection from the thing you got so attached to during that long time. I feel you.

On the bright side, there's still a lotta time to submit for Round 2. So reuse those stories you worked so hard to develop - the second one is definitely easier!

I am working on this application for almost a year now and don't even want to think about the time and money spent on GMAT, TOEFL, app fees, transcript translation fee (by the way this one is complete robery, almost considering switching career to transcript translator if not accepted to Columbia...).

J-termer here. Mine went complete around 10/12, but no news yet (which I guess is good news for today). I stopped by the admissions office a couple of days ago to see if they can give me any info , but they gave the standard 4-8 weeks from the time you hit submit. Sorry to hear about the dings. I was steeling myself for that, but J-Term seems a different beast.

Myself and one other, who went under review around 10/4, were invited to interview last Thursday.

Now to get one of those busy interviewers to reply. What's the etiquette for following up and un-replied e-mail? Something akin to the three-day sms embargo following a Saturday night date?

If they don't reply after a couple of days, just move on to the next person on the list. The list may not always be up-to-date and some people may have moved on to different jobs. You only have 2 weeks, so I wouldn't wait past the rec 2 days.

Yeah, mine was complete on the 17th, feeling around the same. It's weird, I haven't hear of anyone from J-term who applied at the deadline and interviewed get a decision back, although the ED people who applied around the same time have already gotten decisions. I called admissions and got much of the same, even though 8 weeks puts us at December 1st, which sounds unlikely.
