Yes! She was here in Brazil this Wed. I am hoping she will not be attending all these information sessions - that covers the whole globe!! If she is going to half these places we are never getting a decision hehe.

Eh, not sure as I don't have proof points.. but if you are signed up for newsletter on their site you will most likely receive invites to sessions in your area... I get them from Tuck everyday it seems :)
The invitations to attend the diversity events are extended through a simple application process (i.e. fill out form, upload resume and/or short essay). That's why people correlate receiving an invitation to attend (or not receiving an invitiation) to chances for admissions.

Hope that clarifies.

Alas, Hurricane Irene has put a damper on Columbia Spotlight On: Diversity this Saturday. Guess I don't have to make the 2 hour drive to NYC after all.

word.

tough break for people that went complete recently, I would anticipate a very understandable delay in responsiveness from the adcom for the next few working days.

If Mary Miller indeed has to sign off on every admit decision, then those waiting to hear might have to wait a bit. I looked at the Columbia On The Road schedule and it looks like Mary Miller is visiting a number of South American countries this week and next (Argentina on Aug 29).

Add to this the likely delays because of hurricane Irene and the wait might be a couple of weeks. I hope I'm proved wrong.

Going over the 2011 CBS Applicants page, it looks like the first decisions (for people who applied in August) came around September 10.

So at this point... best thing to hope for is that you don't get a ding before then! :)

I am sure they are clearing the back-log for J-term if any remains before they start making official decisions on ED applicants. With the deadlines the same, I am sure they want to minimize the number of J-term applications left to review with the short time frame before they start.

Yes! I think they are prioritizing J-term candidates given that they start in a few months. If you are ED I think it might take up to a few weeks but anything can happen - I think they are much busier around October because of the deadline.

If you find this wait as excruciating as I do, think about freezing yourself for a couple weeks (ala Cartman in South Park when he can't wait for the release of the Wii)

CBS '13 just finished up its orientation week (actually we have drinks tonight at a swanky bar downtown) and I've got to tell you guys that CBS is an absolute blast!!! The MBA experience thus far has far exceeded my expectations. Its truly an amazing experience. NYC is such an incredible place to form a class and everyone is great. The culture and community are so tight -- I really think they've pushed back against the "no community" reputation that CBS had because everyone has been commenting on how close we've all become. One thing that helped for me were the student-led drinking nights at various NYC locations before orientation started; we had one at Sky Room (a rooftop bar in Times Square) where 400+ of us took over an entire bar.

Anyway, I am definitely drinking the orientation Kool-Aid because I've been having the time of my life. J-Termers: can't wait to meet you guys in a few months! Class of '14 prospies: best of luck!

I tried to pick a guy who had similar background (i.e. WE in Consulting, Undergrad at Unicamp). I guess it was good strategy because the guy really shared my point of view and we had great interview.

I just had mine today. The interviewer graduated in 1978, and is semi retired, so he was pretty relaxed and easy going. He covered all the standard questions, why MBA, why now, why Columbia, ethical dilemma, etc but he did so as part of an interactive conversation rather than a typical interview. Not sure how much my experience helps, but he did say he really liked how passionate I was about CBS and he was gonna add that to his report. I came away feeling quite positive overall.

Well, here's to hoping we get some calls this week... but based on last year... I suspect next Friday (Sep 9th) will probably be earliest.
