Denied w/ interview? Or no?

Denied without interview. Submitted on Jan 2. I have noticed that others who applied in Dec are still waiting for a decision, so someone really didn't like my candidacy. Chicago is more quant, so GMAT shouldn't be an issue, I saw recommendation letters today - outstanding, essays were stronger than Chicago. Now I am wondering about Wharton and Stern, since HBS is pretty much a dead dream for me (did not get the first wave invite).

Congrats to those who survived! :)

Dinged w/o Interview. Applied w/in 24hrs of the 1/4 deadline. Surprised and really disappointed. I felt this was one of my stronger apps and it was my top choice school (I'm a NYC guy and really want to stay there). So far going 0/4 with 0 interviews, which is taking a toll on my confidence. Hopefully my luck turns for the apps out there

When did you find out you were not accepted?

12:47PM. I am still wondering what made them reject me at once. Probably overthinking at this point.

@sdd996 - feel your pain. NYC would have been perfect for me as well - I have been moving around so much my whole life and fell in love with the city after moving for work a year and a half ago.

Sorry to hear that. Did you receive an email? What is your gmat if you don't mind me asking?

I applied on 1/4, still haven't heard anything yet.

I applied in the ED round. After i was interviewed they deferred me to the RD round. in the decision letter they said that they will communicate a final decision no later than Feb 1st but I haven't heard anything yet.

Anyone heard about anything like this before? What should I do?

If I were in ur position...the anxiety would push me to email the adcom. Use ur discretion though.

TO join the others in the same boat...I applied on 2/1 RD before the merit fellowship deadline and still under review. No interview/ding yet...

GMAT 690; GPA 3.62 from top 3 undergraduate US business school; speak 4 languages fluently, extensive international background. Enterpreneurial WE for 6 years (company grew from 30 to >600 employees - I was a direct COO report) and now work in IBanking (2 years). White European Male. The recommender went to Columbia.

You sound like a really strong applicant. I would guess that maybe because you submitted your application about 5 months into the application cycle they have already accepted other candidates with similar experience/profile.. I am not an expert though so maybe I am wrong.

Trust me, that is what I thought and my parents have been telling me all along :) Just kidding.
I am not sure what went wrong - was it the length of the essays that wasn't enough to reflect my candidacy? was it 690 score? I am also running a public speech club for the same BB Ibank, but maybe it sounds too elitist?

On the other hand I came to the US with $300 and was homeless for a while, so ... "American dream" check.

Unless they have an unexpectedly large number of former-homeless enterpreneurial Ibankers who speak fluent Chinese, German and English, I am at a loss of words. I guess, you can never be sure.

Wow now I am even more impressed. Don’t beat yourself up over it.
I can tell you for a fact that it’s not the GMAT by itself as I know others with a much lower score that were admitted. (you are after all in the 80th percentile). You can always ask for feedback if you decide to reapply next year. I still think it’s about numbers.. I am sure you will be admitted to other schools and if not you should consider applying in the early decision next year.

Thank you. It's clearly not the end of the world and I will be hoping for the best with other schools. Best of luck to all of those who are waiting and congratulations to those who scored the admission!

Submitted on 12/31, and I was dinged without interview yesterday.
I'm a little surprised as I thought I had a good application, but I'm not too disappointed as the further I was going through the application process, the less fit I felt with Columbia! They may have felt the same...
