You said before that you submitted on 12/19? Good luck.

I did submit 12/28 but my recos cam in on 1/3 and because of a TOEFL waiver issue the app didn't go under review until 1/4...
interview scheduled for next week... very excited

I have two logistical questions for people who had interviews. How long did you wait to hear back from a potential interviewer before you moved to the next name on the list? Also, did you guys stick to the instruction of only emailing on person at a time? I am trying to be patient but want to get my interview scheduled already (especially since admissions are rolling)! I've already had two people say they can't interview me and am waiting to hear back from the third. Thank you!

sej, I had a an alum who took a while to get back to me. I waited two days and then moved on. Eventually he responded but at that point I told him I had already scheduled my interview, and it wasn't a problem at all.

Does anyone else feel like the pace of decisions being released is absolutely glacial? I know it is rolling but it seems like very few RD applicants have been invited or received dings. Anyone know when or if the pace will pick up?

I would be careful with that. There are hundreds of people who do not post acceptances, rejections, interview invites, etc. for whatever reason so how do we have any clue if the acceptances/rejections are coming through or not? For the record, my interview report went complete 1/27/11 and still heard nothing...

I know GC is a small sample size and that most decisions and invites never find their way here, but compared to other schools to which I have applied CBS seems to have less transparency around the process and a slower decision process. This is based only on my experience here and on other forums and is in no way scientific, just a feeling I get.

TheGeneral, I definitely agree with you, just that we should try and stay confident because it is completely out of our hands. If you're like me, if I don't get a call in the morning then I just wait for the email in the afternoon...

So what does it mean if I submitted on 1/3 and people who submitted 1/4 got an interview and I am still waiting. Do they review applications in the exact order received? Has Columbia passed me by?

Posted from my mobile device

Its rolling, which means they review applications in the order that they're submitted. That said, I'm guessing they're looking at more than one application at a time, so if they start reviewing all the 1/3 and 1/4 applications at the same time, they may simply naturally make a decision on some of the 1/4 applications before the 1/3 applications.

I've posted this a couple times before, but lets just remember everyone that unlike other schools, Columbia doesn't have a "decision" or "ding" date. Its not like there is a correlation between the amount of time that's elapsed and your likelihood of getting in. With schools that release all their dings on a specific date, you could have been dinged a week ago but not find out about your fate for another couple of weeks. Not the case at CBS -- you're notified when a decision is made.

Simply put, if you haven't been dinged, you're still in the running: period. So look at a day passing w/o an update as a good thing -- it means you're still being considered.

They've identified admits who are being considered, but the fellowship amounts are still TBD for most, if not all, fellowship candidates. This is based on what I've gathered over the past few days from adcom.

Yes. According to the admitted students website they are giving out some starting in mid-Feb and then again in April (I'm assuming for people who applied a bit later in the cycle).

Yes, it says that they will begin releasing fellowship decisions in mid-Feb, but my question is to brooklynite123’s point that they’ve already identified candidates. Does that mean that those candidates have already been notified?

Yes. There was an event on Saturday called the Columbia Challenge for candidates on the "shortlist." But I don't know if everyone on the shortlist gets a fellowship, or if people not on the shortlist can still get fellowships going forward. Sorry for the confusion!
