Thank you both for your kind words. My motivation for getting an MBA was purely my own. I think if this current round doesn't work out, I'll get a job in the space I want and work my way up from there, and if they need me to get an MBA then I'll try again. I'm 24 and barely have 3 years of work experience, which I think counted against me. I'm by no means giving up- this was a learning experience I'll build off of.
Thanks everyone for your support!
You have so much time left! I'm glad you realize that. You're young-ish for business school, but recognizing that and going through this learning process NOW will set you up BEAUTIFULLY for the application season a year or two from now. Obviously, this application season isn't over and you still are very much in the game, but should you want to re-do this process in a couple of years, you'll be golden. Heck, I'm jealous, as I wish I had the foresight to do that. lol
This is a PSA to everyone, not just you: IF YOU GET WAITLISTED AT A SCHOOL YOU REALLY WANT TO GO TO, PUT IN THE WORK TO GET OFF THAT WAITLIST. I was waitlisted at a ton of schools last year (well, three, which isn't a ton, but you get the idea), and I failed to do what I needed to do to get myself off the waitlist because I figured I'd just reapply the following year. If you know you're a quality candidate (and you should know this), take the time to do what is necessary to get off the waitlist:
1) Follow-up with the school. Stay in contact as much as possible. Stay engaged. Nothing beats enthusiasm in a candidate, and schools know that.
2) Ask for feedback and put that feedback into action. If that means retaking the GMAT or resubmitting your resume with updates about awards or community service or a promotion, do that.
3) Seek out other recommendations. These can be external or even internal character references from people at the school currently or peers/mentors who can vouch for you.
4) If you haven't already, visit campus. I heard an admissions director tell me once that a waitlisted student took a week off work to visit the campus, came and took every single class they had on offer and met with faculty and students every single day, just to get a feel of the school and the fit. He got off the waitlist and was admitted the following week. Every little thing can make a difference.
5) Remain POSITIVE! All hope is not lost. You can do this if you know it is meant for you. I believe you WILL WHAT YOU WANT in this world, so don't lose hope.
Good luck
OnePlusOne, and don't give up hope. You have a real shot at getting in this year, and I know that if you want to be in the Class of 2017, you will be.
