Wow, I didn't even get membership because I apparently didn't show enough commitment to the mission. I feel like living overseas the past 5 years really hurt me. Really disappointed, I was looking forward to at least flying out to OP and participating in the network.
I've always been confused by this. Are you not committed if you didn't participate in LEAD, SEO or not a member of the NAACP? Exactly how do you show commitment to the issue?
I am applying this fall, and would appreciate insight from people who has successfully navigated this terain. I am passioante about women's issues, and have devoted my time to that and the military, would I be considered not committed to the "the inclusion of African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native Americans in American business"?
I am confused by this as well. I am Hispanic and did consulting projects for a low-income African-American church in Baltimore before I left for Asia. Since then, I have seen literally 1-2 AA/Hispanic/Native people in the 5 years I have been here. Also, since I am technically an immigrant here, I can be deported if I volunteer. I tried to finesse this in my essays, but no dice.
I am actually really surprised because i've never seen a post of "I got denied membership" before. Only no fellowship, but received membership. I would be happy to have membership even without the fellowship
