I have received interview invites and been match with interviewers. I am struggling to get responses from my interviewers to schedule time. Is anyone else facing this issues? I don't want to be extra pushy but shouldn't they be equally active in this process?
Hi
riddhitabillaiya,
I know this situation is frustrating. But you need to understand that interviewers are volunteers and by no means this is part of their jobs.
Also, AOs don't check their availabilities beforehand when you're paired with them. Just when you get their two names via email, they get a cold email from your AO letting them know you'll be reaching out. That's the first time they find out about the interviews. If they're not available, they'll let you or your AO know, and then your AO will pair you with some other alum.
This process might seem a bit inefficient from an applicant perspective, but it's easier for the school. Plus, there is a reason the deadline to complete the interviews is about 4 weeks. This is plenty of time. And interviewing earlier doesn't mean hearing back earlier on the final decision. So, from an admissions perspective, there is no real gain in interviewing early.
Anyhow... wait for a couple of days. If they don't get back to you, email them a friendly reminder. After a couple more days, if that doesn't work, try messaging them via SMS... (sometimes, these emails go to their spam folders). If that doesn't work, let your AO know.
Keep in mind that the biggest part of the interview consists in assessing your personality. And you can take these email communications as the first impression you're making on your interviewers. So, yeah, as you said, you don't want their first impression of you to be that of someone who is pushy.
I can't stress this enough. They're volunteers. So, always always always, show appreciation for their time.
I hope this helps.
Warm regards
Alex
