Do you know when will start the R2 interview invitations?

Just a guess, but should be around or after the R1 decision deadlines.

What time is the Coffee Chat? I'd love to meet up. Also, are there ever events on weekends or in South Bay or SF?

7pm on Monday 1/5, unless you get an email saying differently. It will probably be moved from Peet's to Milano's Coffee (Both in Berkeley). But the move is NOT confirmed unless you get an email from the Admissions Committee.

There was an SF coffee chat on 12/19 with about 25 people, but unfortunately no South Bay one this time, sorry!

Thanks Kry and RJacobs...Bummer, I don't think I can make it out that early. Since I applied R2, hopefully there will be other times.

Also, do yall think living in the Bay Area makes it more competitive to get into Haas? Like, does it make our backgrounds seem less diverse? I've only been in Cali 2 years and I love it!

I don't think there will be more coffee chats, but there may be some on-campus admissions events, as well as the normal class visits, lunch with students, and infosessions. The coffee chat on 1/5 will last until 9pm, if you want to swing by for 30 minutes or so.

There are quite a few people from the Bay Area, but there's no formal stat on how "competitive" it is for bay area people to get into Haas. You are still compared against the whole pool and selected for your personal merits. :)

yea I was wondering about that 'competition pool' too.
lets say an applicant is from Cambodia, but he or she has been living in California for the past 5 years
which one matters more?... country of citizenship or your current residence?
Personally what do you guys think?

Kry - what's your take on R3? Are most of the spots filled in R1/R2, or is Berkeley a bit different for R3 because there are 4 rounds?
I'm kicking myself for not applying earlier.

thanks.

cul3s: My personal view about "competitive pool" is that each applicant has a unique story to tell. Just because one is from Cambodia doesn't automatically put the candidate in the "Cambodia pool". He/she'll probably be considered an international student if they don't have US Citizenship or Permanent Residence, but other than that, it depends on what the essays talk about. Maybe what shaped this candidate's background is his/her life in Cambodia and the work they did there, or maybe what's most influential are the 5 years they stayed in California. It really depends on what unique perspectives that candidate can bring to the incoming class. I hope that answers your question.

Chitchat: R3 is equivalent to R2 for schools with 3 rounds. So I wouldn't worry too much about applying R3 vs R1/R2.

Does anyone know what approximate percentage of applicants who are invited to SS get accepted? I heard about 50% from one source, and about 75% from another.

Last year I believe it was 50-60%. But other than that, I have no other info.

Hey ninkorn,

First of all, congrats on your decision to go to Yale! (nice avatar, hahaha). I'm definitely sad to not see you come to Haas, but I'm sure you'll have a great time at Yale.

Hope to meet you in person some day!

anyone else got an interview invite or applied but does not appear on this list?

Who's coming to the Coffee chat tonight? You should have gotten an email saying it's moved to Cafe Milano on Bancroft Way in Berkeley.

One of the nice things about my Wharton ding it didn't seem like it took that long to find out. The decision date is over 3 months away from when I submitted my app. Hard to keep the faith for this year as I don't think I did a good job with the Why Now portion of my essays.

I've pretty much given up hope on getting an interview at this point. I'm really surprised - thought I would at least get an interview after getting one at Stanford and Harvard.
