Alright, I am back from the dead and ready to give the app process another go-round :D

I only ended up applying to HBS last year and did not get admitted, however Berkeley has always been my dream b-school. Here's to a fresh start and smooth app season...I'm in for R1.

Best of luck everyone!

Does anyone know what the acceptance rate for waitlisted re-applicants is?

A HAAS alumni briefly mentioned that I would have a extremely high chance of getting in this year.
Provided that I receive feedback during my feedback session and apply them to my application.

This seems like a never ending quest.... Oh well, let the games begin...again.

I don't think they actually have exact info on re-applicant admittance rates, but if you do follow what they say about the feedback, you should have a better chance than first time applicants. Of course, it does all depend on the pool you're competing against.

An interesting article by an Economist journalist that came to Haas last semester for 3 days and did many interviews and class visits.

https://www.economist.com/research/artic ... extfeature

the poem at the end of the comments section is kinda funny (and cynical). :)

Thanks kryzak for all the info.Really helpful in preparing for the application.
Any idea whether HAAS is going to change this year's essay questions?
Also how many students are taken into the MOT certification program?

Haas generally changes some of the short answers questions and keeps the longer ones the same.

I think 10% of the people actually get an MOT certificate, and most take many MOT classes but end up not getting the cert.

Quote from Haas adcom in BW article:

A Convincing Career Plan

The essay is another area where applicants can show off their career-readiness. A convincing career plan helps spell out how students will put the schools' career and networking resources to use. "For every applicant we make an offer to, there are another eight or nine or 10 that we can't make an offer to," says Peter Johnson, director of full-time MBA admissions at UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business (Haas Full-Time MBA Profile). "So we want to find the person who's going to be best positioned to make good use of all the things that they will get from the MBA program." Johnson and his career staff look for candidates with a workable vision of their future and a good picture of how Haas will fit in. Says Johnson: "If someone's using B-school to discover themselves, that's not the best use of those resources."

I've created a discussion topic on the entire article here:
the-new-criterion-for-mba-admissions-bw-article-80732.html

Just thought I'd put the Haas adcom excerpt here, although its not really new or something most people probably did not know already.

bucktooth911 beat me to it, by announcing the change in the essay questions. :-)

So i will put in the major/minor changes in the essays.

Major Change:

Short Question 1: What are you most passionate about? Why? (250 word maximum)

Completely new question.

Optional Essay 2: has been removed.

So what does it mean for the HAAS Achievement Award? Maybe the Adcom would want applicants applying for that award to answer here.

Minor Change:

Short Question 3: 3. At Haas, we value innovation and creativity. Describe a time when you created positive change in a group or an organization? (250 words)

I think the major highlight here is positive change.

Long Question 2: 2. What are your post-MBA short-term and long-term career goals? How do your professional experiences relate to these goals? How will an MBA from Berkeley help you achieve these specific career goals? (1000 word maximum)

The last part of the question no longer asks about 'Why Now' but more emphasis on how Haas would help you achieve these goals.

Alright, so I finally I hustled myself into reapplying this year.

Haas has always attracted me for its proximity to what I want to do (tech, entre.)... However, I did not apply last year because it was already quite late when I got to know more about Haas..So, I will be a fresh applicant

Reapplicants/admits care to share the mistakes or you think you made or your experience of application last year?

My big one was that I procrastinated some essays until Aug end and then I had to rush through them. Did not make my goals clear and specific in my essays...I think they were not clear to me as well...which they are now (hopefully :P )

another one was not making enough contact with some schools. Schools really value your love for them but only if you show it to them... so, get out and SHOW how much they mean to you...

An update on the new classroom project.

https://www.haas.berkeley.edu/haas/stratplan/koret.html

The floor plans look pretty exciting! Can't wait till it's done.

Plus we get a fresh new coat of paint. Nice to see the dean backing up his words on not letting the economic crisis hurt the level of services and improvements around campus. :)

Kryzak, do you know why Haas isn't participating in the Yellow Ribbon Program? I believe it's the only top school that isn't. Doesn't give off a very good vibe to us vets. I had planned on applying to the program, but I doubt I will now.

swbluedevil, your question about the Yellow Ribbon program inspired me to stop lurking and post. I'm applying to schools this fall and planning on using the new GI Bill too (don't qualify for the full benefit though). I'm having a hard time deciding if I want to apply to Haas because California has basically zero tuition reimbursement with the new bill. I was really impressed when I visited and the MBA/MPH program matches my interests, but it'd be hard to pay full cost versus reduced tuition at another top school.

kryzak, if you don't mind me adding on to the original question, what's your take on the military vet presence at Haas?
