it's all about who you are, what you can bring to the class, and what you can get out of the MBA degree. GMAT score is only one part of it. LOTS of 760+ people get dinged, so as long as your score is within the 80% range, you should focus on telling your story and your experience.

Just because you're (slightly) below the middle 80% mark doesn't necessarily mean you're out either. Even if you read the Harvard (which is by many is supposed to be the end all be all) thread you see people with sub 600 scores admitted to their program.
The middle 80% range represents the
average candidate, which might not necessarily represent you. (Insert my own speculation here...) More specifically, if your background (more precisely your application) brings a unique set of experiences and qualities to the table that aren't typical, the candidates you might be competing against (supply) could be much smaller and therefore increase your chances for admission. (Continue speculation...) As a result, you see finance kids who are typically on the top side GMAT curve get dinged because their specific pool of applicants is much more competitive than
the average applicant pool.
