This post is mostly for the benefit of R1 applicants. As the days roll on by, the chances of admits are getting slimmer for the uninterviewed. Haas was/is one of my top choices and I'd certainly like to re-apply next year. This might be a good time to discuss with others what their plans are should they not get into a school of their choice/any school. As for me, I am 29 already and have a low GPA story. Other than that, I believe I have a strong profile, and compelling stories that cover a range of issues (award-winning author, overcoming a physical disability, leadership awards at work, headed an international non-profit, led various climbing expeditions around the world, etc).
I find it hard to believe that an avg. GMAT and sub-par GPA go such a long way in invalidating your candidacy. It could be that my goals and past experiences do not coincide to well (or for long enough). I have an engg background and want to move into social enterprises. I guess I need more experience, so I intend to return to India (I am indian) and work for social enterprise and re-apply in 2011 (for class of 2014 -- so far off!!).
Other people with similar stories, what do you folks plan? I am certainly worried to quit a six-figure job to work for a 20th of my current salary, but I believe if I want to get into a top-3 with abysmal grades, I gotta do something spectacular. Can't do that at my current job but can do it if I return to India. Talking to other people with similar plans and restrictions (age-wise, career-wise) who want to take a leap of faith would certainly help my nerves
