I suspect it is to those whose applications have not yet been reviewed --> We look forward to reviewing your application! I don't think they'd be sending this to applicants whose applications they have reviewed and put in the 'rejected' pile. They will probably send rejection emails to them at some point later. But then again, this is purely conjecture. I don't know anything for sure. I'm just waiting and trying to be rationale and not lose my mind. :)

I agree with your rationale. I think these mid review notifications by schools can be tricky, both for applicants and the school. If applicants still waiting for an interview invite dont get this email, it could hint at something.

But I am sure the school would catch on to that quickly and send a second batch of the message to all applicants.

I don't know if I should be, but I am actually encouraged by this email. It may be because when I saw it in my inbox I thought it was a rejection, but still...

This has probably been asked before but given there is barely any activity on this thread and no mention of any interview invites in recent days (I'm still waiting myself) - when does Haas stop sending out invites? Any international students hearing from Haas?

Waitingforhbs, you are probably right. My brother (who is a professor) attended a conference at Berkeley last week and a Haas faculty member mentioned that they're short staffed and have a limited budget this year. I reckon there are going to be few scholarships and like you said, more international students (bodes well for me! :P).

I got my answer via an email from Haas just now that many of you must have received:

Dear ******,

Thank you for submitting your Round One application to the Berkeley MBA program. We know how much time and effort you put into the application, and we appreciate your strong interest in Berkeley.

Over the last two months, we have prepared and begun reviewing your application. Our Admissions Committee takes great pride in reading and evaluating applications for admission. Every single application, regardless of GPA, GMAT, or number of years of work experience, is read by a minimum of two readers. In many instances, an application is read by three readers, and sometimes four. As a result, it does take some time before we extend our interview invitations. Please be patient as you await word from us.

We have already invited a number of candidates to interview, and we will continue to extend interview invitations up until our Round One notification date of January 13, 2011. Please note that you should not be discouraged if you do not receive an interview invitation by our Round One notification date. Some Round One applicants will be offered a place on the waitlist without having been interviewed; these waitlisted candidates are welcome to schedule an interview in January and February.

Again, thank you for your strong interest in Berkeley-Haas. We look forward to reviewing your application!

Sincerely,

---The Berkeley MBA Admissions Team

yup I got one too. DOn't know what to make of it

Thanks for sharing! I stand corrected about my speculation that this email has only gone out to those whose applications are yet to be reviewed.

Yeah, I got that email. I've already interviewed so I was freaking out. Why would Berkeley send out an email that makes you think you've been rejected until you've reached the 3rd paragraph. Haas is my #1 choice and I've been impressed with Haas' adcom so far but but this was really cruel.

Uhhh, I didn't get that. Should I be worried?

Buddy, are you sure you didnt get this email?

Check your spam mail etc.

Given that almost everyone else seems to have gotten it, you shouldnt worry. They probably missed your email address while filling in the batch of addresses

Oh man! Berkeley is really keeping me on my toes. I nearly fell of my chair when an email popped up with "Berkeley-MBA" subject line.

I read the email twice to make sure there was not an invite or rejection hiding in there somewhere.

This email doesn't mean much. I think they're testing their system so that they don't get the same batch-2, round-1 trouble that Ross had few weeks back. In that case, I am impressed with Haas adCom.

Any R2 applicants get the application under review email ??

"Thank you for submitting your application for admission to the Berkeley MBA Program at the Haas School of Business. Your file is now ready for review by the admissions committee.

While we currently have sufficient documentation to review your application, please note that if you are invited to interview, you will be required to immediately submit official academic records issued by the school. Please visit the application status page at https://ssl.haas.berkeley.edu/admissions/application to view the materials that may be required. If you have recently sent official documents, please allow two weeks for the status page to be updated to reflect receipt. "

Did anyone just receive a coffee chat email?

My heart skipped a beat, especially since the iPhone truncates subject lines...but then common sense quickly told me that if there's no way they could have reviewed my application in less than 2 days, given the times others have posted.

...and if they had, it probably wouldn't have been positive news :)

I applied in Round 2 and I have neither the 'under review' mail nor the coffee chat invite. I checked their coffee chat page and it looks like they will not be hosting one in my country!
