This was the most frustrating application, by far. Did anyone else try to paste the contents of a Word file only to find that the application system had saved all the sentences in the reverse order? Bizarre.

Yes...this was really, really strange. I applied R2 (still waiting/under review), and I saw this glitch. I'm guessing it probably happened in R1 too...maybe people talked about it, but I didn't follow the thread as closely then. It was really weird because it preserved overall paragraph structure perfectly, but somehow reversed the sentences inside the paragraph. Conceptually, I have no idea how that was happening. I consider myself someone fairly tech savvy, but this was, like you said, bizarre. Oh well...at least it's over! Good luck!

The system was flawed! And weirdly too! I completely resonate with that sentiment. I consider myself tech savvy too (I used to be a software developer for god's sake!) but I couldn't understand why it happened. And I found multiple errors in my essay after I'd submitted it - had to send out an e-mail to let them know. :(

Same here. I'm pretty tech savvy myself and I couldn't figure this out. I hope nobody out there overlooked this glitch.

Question, I submitted R3 last night, and at the end they mentioned I needed to send official transcripts and signed letters of reccomendation to them by some postmark deadline? What is this deadline for the snail mail stuff and why are they requiring this? Do we need to send the stuff before getting an interview or acceptance?

Oh man, that application system is frustrating. I found that pasting from word to notepad, then into the application was the only way I could get it to copy over properly.

With that said, I'm really hoping my recommenders had an OK time pasting in their recommendations. I'm going to have some mixed up recommendation letter if the system re-organized the sentences and they didn't realize it.

I'm in for round 3. Good luck everyone.

I used google docs for my essays and didn't have much trouble copying and pasting. At least I don't think I did. :)

Letters of recommendation have to be submitted online so I don't know how they would expect them to be signed.

As for the official transcript, you can wait til you get an interview invite then send a sealed transcript yourself or have your undergrad school send it. As long as it's there in advance of the announcement deadline you'll be fine.

Haas gives the option of submitting materials electronically or via snail mail. If you (and your recommenders) submitted online, you should have nothing to worry about. If you did not, then you should have had things in the mail by the deadline.

----------------

We prefer that you upload copies of official transcripts or degree certificates with your online application and submit your official letters of recommendation electronically with your online application. If you are invited to interview, you will be required to submit official transcripts and degree certificates by mail.

You may mail any supplemental materials to:
Full-Time MBA Admissions
Haas School of Business
University of California, Berkeley
430 Student Services Bldg #1902
Berkeley, CA 94720-1902

Transcripts & Degree Certificates: You may upload scans or mail official copies, or photocopies of official documents, for initial review of your application. If you are invited to interview, you will be required to submit official copies by mail. We do not accept self-reported grades, only copies of official documents. Please do NOT email electronic versions of academic records to us. They will not be accepted. Furthermore, since they contain confidential information and email is not secure, this could expose you to risk. The Haas School of Business is not responsible for information, including academic records, that is emailed to us.

Letters of Recommendation: You may ask your recommender to complete the paper recommendation form to send directly to our office. We accept no more than two letters of recommendation for each applicant. Paper letters must have the letter writer’s signature across the seals of the envelope.

I assumed that I could just scan and upload the transcript too. But I happened to call the day my application was due and the rep said they only accept scanned versions if you are an international student. Domestic school transcripts have to be mailed and postmarked by the application due date. Luckily, I hadn't opened the official transcript I requested and just stuck it in another envelope and mailed it in that day. But I don't know if this is just a EWMBA thing. You might want to double check.

EWMBA requires it...I don't think the full time program does. Not sure though.

I submitted scanned transcripts on my full-time application, which was fine according to the same instructions that shels referenced. EWMBA must have a different set of requirements.

Once I received an interview invite, my online status changed to "invited to interview" and a line in my status report said I needed to mail in an official transcript. So I stuffed a sealed transcript into a bigger envelope and mailed it, then got an email confirmation a few days later saying they had received it and that my file was complete.

Gosh I'm really torn on the Optional essay - what to write - negative cover up or positive stuff

I didn't do the optional essay and it must not have hurt me too bad. I'd say stick to using it to explain a semester of low GPA, unemployment period, or anything else bad you think the adcom will see and wonder about. Or if you have something spectacular that didn't lend itself to any of the other essays. No need to write an additional essay unless it's necessary.

I didn't do the optional essay either. Totally agree with emont.
