However, I just got laid off by my company due to company downsizing/COVID (I'm located in the U.S.) - I'm wondering if this is something that I need to notify the admission team? I think you should let the admissions team know. Also, let them know about the next steps that you are taking to find a job, etc. I don't think it will hurt your chances of getting into Booth.

I have heard from a lot of the admissions committees that they are more accepting of a job loss or gap in employment especially this year because of Covid.

I would not. Sorry to hear about the job.
There is no reason really to notify the school. .. the application is valid at the time. Sometimes people will notify school about promotions and that sometimes can come handy during the application but you don’t have to notify them about promotions or being laid off.... It doesn’t matter all that much in the grand scheme of things.

I would not. Sorry to hear about the job.
There is no reason really to notify the school. .. the application is valid at the time. Sometimes people will notify school about promotions and that sometimes can come handy during the application but you don’t have to notify them about promotions or being laid off.... I would highly recommend that you do NOT contact the adcom about this. I have worked with several applicants in this exact situation over the past decade+. The adcom knows that things happen after the submission deadline. But there are deadlines for a reason -- can you imagine the chaos if everyone contacted them with every update they thought was significant after the deadline?

It will absolutely NOT hurt your chances -- this happens a lot and it certainly is happening more this year. If it comes up NATURALLY in your interview you can mention it, but you do not need to proactively tell them. Everything up until the point you submitted was accurate.

I guess that background check was the main reason I suggested you report it but after hearing from bb and SBCErikaOlson I guess it makes sense to not report it. The background check won't happen until much later after you have an admission.

So, I guess you can opt to not report it for now and let them know much later once you get an admission, etc
