So I had my call with Mary Miller. First 10 minutes started off with her selling me on the EMBA program. This program was completely off my radar as my firm is small and would not be able to finance my education like most EMBAs get. But she attempted to sell the program to me since she believed it may have fit my profile better.

So during that whole 10 minutes, i'm thinking "oh jeeze, its either EMBA or nothing" so I was kind of depressed as she was talking to me.

But in the end she said, "I just want you to consider EMBA so you know what your options are. If you decide you want to go full-time, we would be happy to have you. Welcome to Columbia!"

So, happy to say I was accepted today. about 8 weeks of waiting

Congratz!!

Congratulations!

But something doesn't feel right. Four years of experience and they think you should be doing an EMBA???

She thought it was a match because I am in PE and since its an industry many people strive to get in to, she thinks I should consider staying with my firm while getting the MBA. But you're right, it was overall a little bizarre. especially because I had to wait the entire time to find out that overall decision.

It sounds to me like they were just trying to minimize the risk of you shooting for a PE job and not getting it.

Otherwise your profile is a total no-brainer.

Congratulations!

At the end of the day, considering nothing drastic changes, I am confident I could return to my current firm. I actually plan to stay involved on Fridays to help out there. My firm actually recruits Columbia MBAs already to do just that so they get PE experience and the firm gets the extra help.

Congrats 6train. I went to an information session in Boston with Mary Miller and told a similar story about a candidate from last year...and how she told him to consider the EMBA as his recs and WE were amazing...and she did not know why he wanted to leave his current firm. She offered him either the EMBA or the FT too and candidate ended up doing the EMBA. Then she went on to say that most ppl think EMBA is for 10+ WE, but that is not true and they are willing to take qualified individuals in the EMBA with 4-5 years of WE.

Congrats, @6train!

I got a call from Mary Miller at 11:30 this morning. I'm in, too! My call was very straightforward...just a quick "Welcome to Columbia!" I'm soooo relieved! Incidentally, she mentioned that the decision won't go into the system until Monday so I won't see the change in status until then.

Best of luck to those of you who are still waiting!

bluecollar...exactly on point with what she was selling to me. But my current job is very travel heavy with alot of commitment. I dont think it would be a good match to work and study. and like I said, I think I could return to the firm afterwards. so i'm basically gonna choose full-time

Congrats to 6train and amakelikbe! Good day here for me too!

Just got my call from Mary Miller - "Welcome to Columbia!". She said that they really liked my re-application, and that she wanted to make sure I heard before the weekend, so "I could celebrate". Celebrate I will!

Submitted: 6/15
Under Review: 6/16
Interview: Not needed (re-applicant, had a great interview last year)
Accepted: 9/10.

I need a drink.
