anyone who gets an email or phone call from the admissions office is presumably in. We have enough data here to support it.

Hello All,
Sorry a little late to the party. So here is my case:
1- Applied: J-term May 12th (super early as you can see)
2- Got Interview invitation on June 23rd
3- Interviewed on June 30th
4- Interview submitted and complete on July 6th
5- Waitlisted on August 11th (just at 12 week mark… pretty bad day but still keeping hopeful)
Profile: International, GMAT 740, Undergrad and Masters in Engineering International, Consulting Engineering/Project Management field, 26 years old

You see, it’s funny since my interview went really good, and after the admissions called my references and I’m pretty sure they gave really good feedback as well. So I though I had a good go at it. My interviewer was extremely nice and after hearing that I got waitlisted he sent an additional recommendation in for me. A month after being waitlisted I sent in an update on some stuff on my side as well, and as far as I know it has all been added to my file for review later ( if any ever happens I guess).

Congrats to everyone who got in. You worked hard and earned your spot. Enjoy your time now and recharge your batteries before school starts. Perhaps I get to be in with you guys as well!

On the side note, a general question, anyone have any idea if there is anything I can be doing at moment that can increase my chances of getting in? It looks as some guys here are re-applicants and have more experience than I do, so just reaching out for help… anything you have noticed from last years forums perhaps that helped waitlisters, etc.

Cheers, and let me know of anything else I can provide.

Ohh yeah, here is the respond you get when you are waitlisted if that’s of any help to anyone!

Thank you for applying to Columbia Business School. After careful review and consideration by the Admissions Committee, we are unable to offer you admission at this time. However, we recognize the strengths of your application and would like to defer our final decision until later in the application cycle. Therefore, we are offering you a place on the waitlist.
If you are willing to be patient and accept a place on our waitlist, please send an email to [email protected] and enter “Remain on Waitlist” in the subject line. In addition, please provide your preferred email address and telephone number. A member of the Admission Committee will contact you if there is a need for direct communication or if we have questions. It is important to that you use this email address to ensure that related correspondence is matched with your application.
We frequently get questions regarding this process. We hope the following will answer some of them.
• How does the waitlist work?
Like our regular process, the waitlist is rolling. You may receive a final decision at any time, but it may be as late as December 15. If you wish to remove your name from the waitlist, please contact us at [email protected].
• Is the list ranked?
No. It is our goal to admit a well-rounded, diverse class.
• May I submit additional materials to supplement my application?
We do not encourage it, but if there has been a significant change since you submitted your application (improved GMAT score, promotion at work, completion of CFA or other credential or class), please share this with us via an email to [email protected].
• How often is the waitlist evaluated?
There is no regular schedule, but the process is rolling and therefore continual. You may receive a final decision at any time during the process.
• How many applicants are on the waitlist?
The size of the waitlist changes frequently throughout the cycle.
• Can I request feedback, an interview or meeting with a member of the Admissions Committee?
Due to the volume of applicants, we cannot accommodate individual requests. A member of the Admissions Committee will contact you, if we have specific questions. However, we encourage you to learn more about Columbia during this time by attending events and presentations, visiting classes and stopping by the Admissions Office in 216 Uris Hall.
We appreciate your interest in Columbia Business School, and we ask for patience and understanding during this process.
Sincerely,

The Admissions Committee

Hi MBA2Move,

I got the same letter last year, but wasn't eventually accepted.

I reapplied this year with enhanced work responsibilities, a higher GMAT score (+30 points), update on new activities, and new certifications received at work, and was admitted recently.

Obviously since you have a 740 GMAT already, it's hard (and not that helpful) to improve there, but if you can get a promotion etc, it can help greatly.

Best of luck!

3 questions for everyone:

1) How much longer before they switch from phone call acceptances to regular email acceptances?

2) Any thoughts on why jtomaz had interview feedback done yest but not "complete" today or why htc said his online status wouldn't be updated to accepted until mon? Problems with the online status system?

3) On the BW forums someone is also commenting on the interviewer submitting feedback several days ago but no status update...I believe mine also submitted a few days ago but no update...any thoughts on why the 24 hour window to update the status doesn't seem to be the case?

Posted from my mobile device

Columbiawannabe,

(1) that's anybody's guess. I do believe for at least the next month or so, the admissions committee will continue to phone call admitted students because they simply have the time to do so. Granted, they have received lots of applications already, but as the admissions season continues, and they continue to receive more and more applications, their time will probably be limited, and they won't have time to call everyone once things really hit the fan.

(2) It's only my guess, but I think they typically update the online status system in the mornings or late mornings each day. Some folks got a call on Friday to notify they had been accepted, but because it was later in the day, they're simply waiting until the next workday morning to update the system to reflect those decisions they made the prior workday.

(3) My status didn't go "complete" until 48 hours after my interviewer stated that she had submitted her feedback. I don't think there is a 24 hour window (or any set time frame for that matter) where your status will definitely go "complete." It just depends on when the staff has had a chance to go into the system to update your application, etc.

(4) Finally, yes, after my interviewed submitted her feedback, I couldn't see any more details on my interviewer or schedule. This is normal. Don't worry - your application is being processed and will go "complete" shortly.

First -- thanks a TON.

Second, as for #4....We sure that means that the report has been completed or do you think after a certain number of days it just goes away?

About to finish my ED app. I could use a quick suggestion on the employment portion of the app. Did anyone put their college work experience in the employment section or did everyone write the third essay? Thanks!

thewaves21,

I put my college internship in the employment section. It was an internship with a well-known company. I did work all throughout college as well, but I did not put my side jobs in. I wrote a third essay as well.

Hey lawgonebusiness,

I did. They told me that's not possible, although I believe there were people last year that did that. CBS told me that I can't even apply for ED or RD as long as I am on the waitlist. So I have to withdraw from the waitlist before I can apply and this isn't good because I might be having a shot at ED and the deadline is really close on the 6th... You can see how I'm being squeezed here from every direction, it's either j-term waitlist or ED but not both!!! and no transfer of apps forward to ED or RD possible.

any thoughts?

For those who have been admitted:

Once you got admitted and logged in did you see a list of documents received and not received?

I.e. transcripts, GMAT, Recommendations, TOEFL....etc?

Does this ring a bell for anyone?

Thanks a lot. Is that the pre-cursor to being admitted?

Hey guys,

So my app went to complete and got some interesting fields on the first page. (relating to columbiawannabe's posts)

Application Status: Completed on 8/26/2010 1:01:00 PM
# Application Fee: Received
# Recommendations: Complete

* ############## (Online): Submitted on 8/25/2010

# Transcripts:

* Transcripts have not been received

# Test Scores:

* GMAT: Not Received

* TOEFL: Not Received

# Other Supporting Documents:

* Essay: Not Received

Decision Status: Available beginning 8/13/2010
# Your application decision is now available online

I presume we did not have to send the official gmat and transcript during the application process right?

Also, its weird my "Decision Status" date is 8/13 since I applied on 8/25.

Did J-Term admits get this same fields? What about dings?

Thanks
