Also, does anyone think they send out invites to those they are most interested in? Or is the process truly rolling in that someone who submitted at 10:01 will hear back before someone who submitted at 10:02 the same day?

In the same boat as you.

I think this has been posted a few times, but AdCom has been pretty consistent with explaining that each application gets a few views (by different members). You could be invited to interview by any of them. Just because you got skipped by the first, doesn't mean you won't get an interview. So, in answer to your question, no. Someone who submitted before you will not necessarily hear back first. There are dozens of examples on the board where that didn't happen already.

I think it's important to remember, for your sanity, that until you are rejected, you aren't rejected. CBS is rolling, so they let people know they're rejected very quick sometimes. If you didn't hear that, then that decision isn't final. At least I think so.

So I've been taking this week to travel overseas and I get an email from a CBS AdCom officer saying that she's been trying to call me on my cell but it keeps going straight to voicemail. My app went complete 31st Jan, btw. Could this mean what I think it is? She left me a number to call back. I'm sitting at thgis dingy little internet cafe in Europe. I'm freaking out.

If you've already had the interview and the whole thing is actually "complete," then you should consider the phone call as good news

They won't be calling you to let you know you've been denied admission.

You might be missing out on a 'good' phone call, but also don't forget that very often Columbia AdCom members will call an applicant again to have another conversation about their application before they present it to the committee again in full. That person will want to make a stronger pitch to the adcom on your behalf. It might be that phone call you've missed out on. I would like to think that they recognize extenuating circumstances though. If I were you I might consider e-mailing admissions just to explain the voicemail you received and the situation. Best of luck.

By the way everyone, I submitted first week in December, interviewed the week of 1/24 and am still waiting to hear as well...no phone calls though

Poppyseed, I had the same thing happen to me (VM left on my phone asking to call back)...Im pretty sure you'll be hearing good news

Usually, if they want more information, they will email you for a time to talk with you.

I want to say congrats but I'll wait...don't want to jinx anything! :p

If they've been trying to get a hold of you, call them back ASAP. It may be a call to admit you...and it may just be a call to ask additional questions. In the case of the latter, it's nothing bad at all...it means that adcom is serious about you.

So before you call them back, read your app carefully and know your strategy...and think of ANY loopholes that may exist. And then call them back.

Regardless, it's good signs.

Yes, I got the best news possible to finish off my trip in the most exciting way imaginable. I got the admit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And yes, I'm super stoked about it. I've been on a shoestring this whole week, but tonight, I'm going to have some drinks and celebrate properly! Too bad there is no one to help me celebrate here, but that'll come in a couple of days.

I'm super excited to be a member of the Class of 2013. See you fellow admits in April!
