It really is nuts, isn't it? For those of us that applied in the week before the Fellowship deadline, this past month has been an absolute bloodbath. Had I known in advance, I still wouldn't have applied ED but come on... Can you really call it "Regular Decision" if it accounts for less than half of admits?

I think there is something fundamentally wrong with my application. I now have reject from Wharton, Kellogg, Booth, and Columbia. I am now waiting to hear from NYU (my last school). Posts: 169

I truly believe in the power of the written word, aka your essays. My stats are totally average but I spent months and months on those essays and I know that is what made me stand out. Getting down "your story" as you have heard a million times is absolutely critical and perhaps the single most effective way of drastically improving your application.
Got a ding today without an interview. I got an email with the status update and no phone call.

I think I wasn't admitted because of my nontraditional background and may be my age too. I am a scientist (PhD in microbiology from a top school in the US)

how would columbia notify one for an interview? Via phone call? e-mail? app status change? I just want to know what to look for...

e-mail about a change in your app status, you go the application page and it says you are invited to interview.
did they already filled in or what.. for the last few weeks there have been only dings w/o interviews..
under review on 21sts started received dings so I guess i will have to wait 10 days to get mine.. (went under review on the 31st)..

Also if you're too scared to login and see your status change (like I was), Columbia sends another email within 24 hrs that specifically invites you for the interview and gives you the website for scheduling. Good luck to those waiting! I'm at the agonizing period between the interview and my status change to interview complete.. I probably will wish I was back here when I get my ding in a few weeks, but RD has definitely been rough on many.

eekkkk people who submitted 1/5 and under review 1/21 are getting notified i haven't heard anything and those are my dates. wont be long i hope!

I just got an email from Columbia (SIPA) with the subject: "Admissions Committee Review Update".
That definitely took several weeks off of my life.

I'm in the same boat...went under review on 1/21 and trying to be as patient as possible with the process. One would think that they may have figured out whether they want to interview an applicant after "reviewing" his/her application for 5 weeks.

anyone interview in January and still waiting for a decision? My app went complete on 1/24. The wait has been brutal.

I interviewed Jan 31 and went interview complete Feb 1. It has been a long wait, I wonder what they are waiting for to give us our decisions....

Got my ding today around 4.30 pm. That makes it 0 out of 6 for this application season. 2 major admission consulting companies (rated the top 2 on admissions411) did not think I have anything fundamentally wrong with my applications that I did not even receive 1 interview. Well...such is destiny. Time to pull up the socks and re-apply.

I attended a CBS admissions event in October. The presenter (I believe he was the dean of admissions) said that there's no difference between an ED applicant's chances of acceptance and a RD applicant's, as long as the RD applicant submits his/her app before Dec 15.

Oh my god...like many others here on GC I treated the 5th of January as some sort of r2 deadline...that was probably lethal to all of us who got dinged within the last two weeks. Drives me nuts, especially regarding the fact that I only waited until Jan 5th to avoid getting a sudden idea for my essays and having already submitted my application. I just wonder why CBS does not make the process more transparent.
