Congrats, runnergirl!! Glad to see more acceptances coming now.. Gives me some hope :). Since going interview complete a few days ago, Columbia has simultaneously made me OCD in checking my phone and nervous everytime I open my email... looks like I'll be this way for a while though!!

I apologize for the confusion. I was 'Under Review' as of the 27th.

I am not too disappointed because I am sponsored by my company and I did not do a good job speaking to what I plan on doing in the summer in my essays, so I somewhat expected this.

Thank you for applying to Columbia Business School. Unfortunately, after reviewing your application for September 2011 entry, the Admission Committee is unable to offer you a place. However, based on the strength of your professional background, stated career goals, and personal profile, the Committee thinks you might be a better fit for our January program.

The January program offers the same core curriculum, world-class professors and MBA degree, but allows students to complete the MBA in 16 consecutive months with no summer internship. This program is specifically designed for those who do not need an internship to reach their short term professional goals.

If you are interested in exploring the January program, we encourage you to visit our website https://www4.gsb.columbia.edu/mba/learnmore/options to learn more. Although there is no guarantee of admission, we encourage you to investigate this option. To learn more about the reapplication process, please visit www4.gsb.columbia.edu/mba/learnmore/applynow/reapply.

We thank you for your interest in Columbia Business School and are sorry that we must disappoint you at this time. However, if the January program fits your plans, we hope to hear from you again.

You're at the point that you should contact admissions...

Good luck!

Does CBS call if you've been waitlisted or if they need additional information? Just saw that I have a message from Friday morning.

Sorry to hear that. Yeah, I don't think admissions consultants are extremely necessary unless someone with good work experience, GMAT, and ECs doesn't get any love from any schools. This is the perfect case where an admissions consultant can find out what's going on. It may be the essays.

Also, you applied 1/17 or went under review 1/17? If you applied 1/17, how'd they look at your app already?! Applied 1/6, Under Review 1/27, and still waiting.

hey, i can look at your essays and CV and chat with you on the phone for a few minutes. I may be able to give you some insight which may help if you decide to reapply.

Guys, I was waitlisted at Columbia back on Feb 1st. Do you have any idea what are my chances of getting accepted? Somehow, I get the feeling that it is a tough place to be.

Is anyone deciding (decided?) between Booth and Columbia? What were your thoughts going into this decision? I'd appreciate any insight anyone has on this.

My second cousin went to Booth and I visited it. Its a great school, no doubt about that, but what made me choose CBS was the community. I don't believe that Booth has the cohort system (may be wrong), and I definitely didn't feel like the MBA program was as cohesive as CBS. Chicago's campus is also a little scattered like NYU's, and I wanted to go to a single campus in a big city, which CBS offers.

These are odd things to compare, but at such a high level, sometimes you're reaching for small variations.
