What do you all make of the new CBS application request (optional) to upload a picture of yourself? I can't figure out the rationale behind CBS adding this this year. Do any other schools do this?
Personally I'm going to do it because it seems like a good idea to complete all aspects of the application, optional or otherwise.
insead has it required. I think they might do it to make sure you are not lying about your gender/ethnicity etc. there's no 100% proof but it is known that some minority groups like hispanics get higher consideration because of the lack of the applicants in the pool... or they can just do it for fun...

The ethnicity thing was my first thought too, but then anyone who is lying about it can simply not submit the picture. You might be onto something with the "just for fun" though...
hehe, i don't think bu hao yi si is really a correct translation for " I am sorry" in this circumstance. I don't think there's such thing in chinese to say " i am sorry," when you hear someone else's bad news.

There is a certain embarrassment one feels when one witnesses another's misfortune, and the guilt of being comparatively unscathed induces the "bu hao yi si" although your last statement is probably true.
It seems like CBS spends the morning taking care of the admin for things that took place the previous night, and then spends the afternoon reading and making decisions (which are then put in the system the next morning).
On columbia making decision the previous day, I concur.
Aren't you from Shanghai? You guys say "ala" for "wo"! Haha jk. I am sure you are right.

I was born there but grew up here in the States. Yeah I know, I love speaking Shanghai dialect. It's so much better than Mandarin. I have a bad accent when speaking Mandarin though, though I still claim to be a native speaker. ahah, kind of ironic.
Congratulations on the invite! Your quick turnaround gives me hope.
From what I've read, the interview process is somewhat informal. Meeting with a local alumni, standard questions on why Columbia, etc. Interview is blind, I believe with the exception of your resume. Check out the 2010 CBS applicant thread for more info. Also, Clear Admit posts interview reports.
