You should go for it if you have a unique XC. Thats exactly the kind of info that will be well-received.

As far as the optional essay, I'm not sure what is "allowed" there.

It doesn't explicitly say it should only be used to explain low GMAT or GPA, etc..., does that mean it is ok to use it to write about a unique extra curricular that says a lot about your personality? Both their essays are "work" related, so I hate that I don't have the opportunity to write about this outside work activity.

Unfortunately I have some bad grades that could use explaining too, I guess it comes down to which is the more important to write about.

True enough. They ask you to submit another essay (with a 10-day deadline from notification).

if they like you as a finalist for the park, they actually admit you early so you can go to one of their weekends. But they make you swear not to go public with your acceptance until the regular notification date. They don't want a million calls from panicked applicants.
