Congrats everyone who got in R1. I am applying in R2 - is it okay if the essays go over the 350 word limit by a bit? Or are they strict?

Anyone have any advise on negotiating scholarship? I.e who do you contact, how did you go about it, was it just a phone call? etc.,

Usually you do it via email because they will not be able to give you an answer on the spot negotiating-a-scholarship-312949.html

Spoiler - most powerful way to negotiate $$$ is to have a competing offer.

After what point will a score bump not matter? I’m also considering retaking the GRE to get a higher scholarship but I don’t know if it’ll actually move the needle
For context I have a 327 (170Q 157V)
If I were to get a higher verbal score, will that give me an upper hand?

Verbal is also the easiest to improve on GRE. Great quant score!

The issue i have been having is time. My work hours are not good and I dont have as much time to dedicate to standardized tests rn. I am confident i could give above 164q and improve the verbal but its time bro.

Would recommend doing vocab review during any free moment you have like lunch break etc. vocab is like 70% of success on the GRE.

Rule of thumb for reading q’s is: if the answer isn’t explicitly stated in the passage, usually not the right answer. All of the questions can be answered just by reading the passage itself without any outside knowledge.

Rephrasing sentences to five year old language was also my way of simplifying complex topics and understanding arguments/logic etc to answer questions

I think if you are a native speaker, no reason why you can’t get above a 163 in verbal with just a bit of prep and mainly vocab review

agreed, I just think i struggled with taking it as a test versus the language if that makes sense

The passages werent the issue from my experience, that was the easiest part, it was consistency across the verbal section as a whole throughout my attempts. I have given myself a 2 month break from taking it again, and i noticed my verbal score has improved on my mocks

Would recommend basing off of ETS mocks or even Gregmat mocks, those are most accurate imo
