Can any current students give any insight into our chances of getting off the waitlist? I know they don't publish stats on things like this, but it would be interesting if any of you had a feel for it based on what you know about your classmates.

Also, can anyone comment on what the adcom values the most when evaluating additional information that we send them? It's pretty obvious that improving your GMAT score 50 points would help, but I'm thinking more along the line of accomplishments in the work place.

Thanks!

W/L is at least better than a Ding! You have already been accepted to Ross, so you are in the safe zone !
Good luck.
i was really praying for a final decision in this case....tht way i could have decided whether i want to join ross or fuqua....but now i have to wait for this final choice....so basically 2 months of useless waiting and there is no guarantee i'll get the admission...

aargh..!!

Really? You're posting this on the Fuqua board?

I wouldn't exactly call the Research Triangle the middle of nowhere.

Definitely not the middle of nowhere in either case. I guess "college town" doesn't really resonate with some. Also, the recruitment opportunities from both are nationwide and very competitive in the US job market.

Oxford's a great program, but not so much if you want to work in the US.

My thoughts exactly when I read this.

Ann Arbor isn't really in the middle of nowhere either (but I guess that is a discussion for another thread)

Sorry, but I have to chime in here. You're currently comparing apples to oranges (brand and location, in your argument). If you want to talk about brand, what's your basis on that Oxford has a better brand than Michigan Ross or Duke Fuqua? As far as I know, if you want to work in Europe and get in Oxford, that's a great choice. If you want to work in the states, Ross and Fuqua would do the trick. All three are, arguably, not at the Harvard or Wharton ranking level, but all three are conceivably very good programs with great brands and recruiters.

Now to get on the location part of your sentence. I won't argue that Oxford is at a great location, with great architectures and picturesque county town. However, to say that Ross and Fuqua are in the middle of nowhere is almost a misnomer. Being in the fact that you're in the research triangle (Fuqua), it'll get you to places. The research triangle consists of numerous high-tech companies, as well as some of the best universities in the states. I'm not going to talk much about Michigan Ross as everyone knows that it's not in the middle of nowhere. Furthermore, the schools, along with the brands of these school, attract all the different recruiters from most industries. Anyway, I disagree with your comment that Oxford's brand is better than Ross' and Fuqua's and I disagree that the locations of Fuqua and Ross are in the middle of nowhere, but feel free to back up your assumptions.

I would also add that the Research Triangle has a population of about 1 million people and is about two hours drive from Charlotte, which is the largest city in North Carolina and perhaps the biggest banking center in the U.S. outside of NYC. I believe it also boasts the largest concentration of tech firms in the U.S. outside of Silicon Valley.

It's also just a few hours from the beach and a few hours from the mountains.

I think Duke interviews about 60% of its applicants.

Even though that information may help to boost/lower your confidence, it is not too relevant honestly. If they interview let say 25% of the pool and admit 98% of those interviewed; if you are part of 2% rejected, you are still rejected. The opposite is also true.

My best advise is to go ahead, present yourself the best you can [if interviewed], and hopefully they will want you there whether they are taking 1% of the pool or 99% of the pool.

Not asking for that purpose. Asking just to compare the interview % amongst the schools that allow self initiated interviews.

What is the history on scholarships offered to ED candidates? I considered applying ED but then I thought if they have you captive, don't they have less incentive to offer money? Would love to hear everyone's thoughts.
Last season, no EA applicants reported any scholarship. Those who received scholarship during the regular rounds all had 760+ GMAT, which leads me to think that Duke use GMAT to determine scholarship awards after you are accepted

Had to quote this from the first page of the thread. My letter said scholarship decisions will be made 2 weeks from yesterday (I assume everyone elses said that as well).

Are there many 760+ among those of us reporting a round 1 acceptance?

There was at least one admitted candidate from EA round who received a scholarship. I do not believe GMAT is determinative in the scholarship award process as I did not receive any such offer.
