Just got the acceptance!

So how does this financial aid thing work? :-P

Congratulations!...are you r3 or wl?

Thanks! I got in R3. I'm still waiting to hear back from Booth (I'm on the R2 WL).

Did anybody who was interviewed get dinged at all? It seems they are stacking up on the WL's. I wonder if they are looking to increase the yield by making all the WL's sweat it out and wait for those who don't want it as much to pull out.

Wow clearly there are a lot of waitlisters! So... What happens now? We start writing another update and keep our fingers crossed?

The deposit deadline for R3 is may 20th so Im going to guess that we'll hear something after that?

Any thoughts from anyone?

Did anyone else on the waitlist (R2) received a financial aid award notification (just fafsa loans, not any scholarship) on Friday night? It seems especially strange given i have not received an update on my application status today...

R2 waitlister as well. I received a financial aid email on Fri around 9pm, but haven't heard anything today, which, according to the adcom email, means more waiting.

The fin aid email could be just an auto response to submitting your FAFSA several weeks back - it's worded a little subjectively. If it's not an indication of admission, they should re-word that email, as it is a little deceiving.

It appears no one from the WL has received notification today, whether it be admit or deny, which puzzles me as the adcom did say there would be some WL movement today.

Thoughts? Have any WLers heard anything, good or bad?

So here's my situation:

I've been admitted to Kenan-Flagler and the deposit deadline is this Friday (5/19).
Interviewed with McCombs and have yet to hear anything.
I was wait listed by Fuqua today. I feel my application is quite strong, and my interview went well. I've made some good professional and community progress since then that I can submit to the adcom.

Obviously Fuqua is my top choice. However, I would be happy to attend KF, and from what I've heard about the UT process, I doubt I'll hear anything from them for a few more weeks.

Question: Would it be worth paying the deposit to KF but staying on the Duke Waitlist?

My guess is that there will be no WL movement until the final pay date, which is May 20th. At that point, they'll know their current class make-up, and know what they need to fill.

Ultimately, they're just managing class make-up, while also managing yield in the process. Most people I know who came off the WL for Duke, came off mid-June.

It is a little disconcerting to witness how unorganized this process is, however.

Deposit at K-F, and wait it out. If you lose the $1000 bucks and get into Duke, you just have to charge that to the game.

I deposited at Emory, but still waiting for Duke and another school.

Anyone else taken similar steps? Would there be any other negatives beside losing a grand?

I just hope that they don't let us know so late that people have already put down further deposits, and started looking at places to live and other expenses related to going to Bschool.

That is when the waitlist becomes a real problem. As someone moving from NYC to wherever I end up, I have a lot to consider and mid-june would be the absolute latest I could switch decisions for schools before losing a ton of money.

I knew of someone who was accepted at the start of Fuqua's orientation - I don't think they're going to take into account your moving needs. For most people, I think Fuqua, is really seeing how bad they want to attend, which makes them pretty inconsiderate in some respects...that's just the nature of the beast, though.

For example, there is most likely still room in the class, they just want to see who accepts, and who declines by the final pay date. I have a hard time believing that if HBS is taking people off the waitlist that Fuqua is not. 95% yield vs. ~50% yield.

R3 WL here.

Got a call from adcom last Monday checking on my "status" to see if I was still interested, which of course I am. They said they were hoping to make some decisions regarding WL. Anyone else receive a similar call?

It's almost 5pm on the East Coast today though, and nothing.....

I didn't get one, and haven't heard of anyone getting a call like that - did you submit any updates? Maybe they were just following up as they hadn't heard from you. What round did you get WLed?

I had to deposit 2K in Rice before I heard anything from any other school. Then I got in KF and WL in Fuqua. I didn't think twice to go ahead and pay the 1K deposit in KF. Now if Fuqua admits me off the WL, I'd definitely go to Fuqua. Thashadow said it all. Just charge it to the game and don't forget that there is only one rule here. Go to the best school you can get into. In the long run a few Grands in nothing.

I mis-typed, I'm a R2 WL.

I had sent a letter outlining updates the day before, but the phone call person did not know about those updates. Then, the next day, I received a confirmation reply to my letter that it would be included in my file.

Maybe they were just following up because they hadn't seen the letter update yet. Has everyone else who is WL sent at least one update?

I sent an update right when I discovered I was WLed, and then submitted a short update close to this deadline.

I'm assuming they were just making sure you were still interested and had not accepted at another program. It's obviously a good thing that they cared enough to call you, but then again, it sucks nothing material happened today...for all WLers.

During the last waitlist chat, I asked if there would be movement off the WL on the R3 decision date, and they confirmed there would be - I find it hard to believe there was any movement given the number of people on the WL that did not hear a thing today. This process perplexes me.
