Since i have all this anxiety and nowhere to channel it, I am playing with the numbers to predict this years spread. Don't get mad (I have put in a generous dose of baseless assumptions).

20102011*
%#%#
Total Applicants:35004000
Selectivity:24%84020%800
Yield:52%44055%440
*Assumption 1: Increase in number of applications resulting in better selectivity for the school (2009 it was 30%, in 2010 it dropped to 24% so its only fair to expect it to be around 20% for 2011)
*Assumption 2: The school will make a slight push to improve its yield
*Assumption 3: Class size remains the same

*Assumption 4: The % of applicants per round is based on general b-school stats and a gut feeling based on the roll call

EAR1R2R3
%#%#%#%#
Applicants:15%60035%140042%17008%300
Selectivity:26%15521%29018%31015%45
Yield:84%13048%14045%14067%30
*I calculated the yield just to see if the numbers make sense

Well thats my prediction ~155 admits for EA.
And of the 35 clubbers, i am guessing 15~20 will get admits (since we clubbers are way smarter than the rest :) )

Adiace,
I am sorry to hear and I hope you get into a great school.

Your prediction was right on the money.

Thanks, feel silly about all that now anyway.
Will ask them for feedback after a few days, any bit of information will help me in my future apps.

Hi All,
This questions is targeted to the applicants that are currently accepted.
Others and chip in if they have the data(i mean please do not tell me opinions).

In the second essay, should one dig deep into 3-4 aspects of the applicant
or
show about 8 aspects and mention that because being a multi-faceted, i would be great for duke etc....

What was your experience?

Thanks in Advance,
Anil

While I am not currently accepted (yet - I hope), from all I have experienced, read and heard: Quality always beats quantity. As such, I would suggests a meaningful discussion of a limited number of aspects rather than a collection of brief snippets.

All you're going to get here is opinions. Even someone accepted could have been accepted in spite of their resume, work experience, interview, essay approach, etc, and they might feel that was their strongest characteristic. Only the committee is going to know for sure, and I'd guess they aren't posting here.

So here's mine: I think you can do 3-4 and still show yourself as a multi-faceted person if that is what you are worried about. As for which 3-4/8, what isn't included elsewhere (resume, optional essay)

I second that in its entirety!

dont forget there's a word limit on the essay and having too many will spread yourself too thin. I did 3 - 1 for each category. whether it works or not is remain to be seen....

I can't give advice on this, but I can tell you what I did. (In other words, maybe my Essay 2 was weak, but I got accepted nevertheless).

I did four aspects. I started with an introductory paragraph that introduced the four aspects. Then wrote one paragraph about each of the four aspects.

My acceptance letter said that people will be notified in two weeks about scholarships (if they get one).

and what about the " confirmation" , do you know if there is a deadline to accept or decline the offer of admision? (there is a link on the letter) ...

I was Early Action, remember? So we did have a deadline (and a link on the letter) of December 17, but technically we're contractually obligated to accept the offer of admission.

Per https://www.fuqua.duke.edu/programs/duke ... y_daytime/, the R1 acceptance deadline (+ deposit) is March 22, 2011.

I don't get why EA deposit is $3000, and R1, R2, R3 is $1500... but whatever

Hey Friends!

Round one applicant here.
Any idea on when to expect interview notifications?
I see that the decisions for EA have been released. Anxiously waiting for interview calls now. Though the interviews for Rd 1 are scheduled on 7th-8th January for applicants based in India, but I was just wondering how early they send the calls.
Any help here would be appreciated :)
