hey -- for the duke essays it doesnt specify a word count length , much like tuck, but tuck advises peopel to keep it around 500 words an essay. would you say the same for duke? what did everyone else do?
This was discussed by a few other posters prior to the R1 deadline, and the consensus was that if you could keep your essays to around 700-800 words each, that would be optimal. That said, if you feel that you need more words to express yourself, you should by all means do it.
I, for one, used up every inch of the two pages that they allotted for each essay. Each of my essays was around 1,100-1,200 words long. In fact, I even struggled to keep my essays shorter than two pages because I just had so much to share. I probably read each of my essays over 50 times (no exaggeration!), and had at least four other friends/family read through them as well. Nobody thought that the essays were too long or that parts of the essays were redundant, so I submitted the longest application essays ever.
