I will be interviewing at Duke this coming weekend, and have a rather superficial question- what does the admissions office mean in telling us to dress "business casual." For my other MBA interviews I have always worn business attire, and figured I would do the same for Fuqua. Any advice/personal experiences would be very helpful, thanks!

Assuming you are a guy you can wear slacks and a button down and be fine. I interviewed during the open interview period and there were people dressed that way. I do not think it hurts you. I believe I still wore a suit just because I feel more comfortable interviewing in suits. Either way should have no negative impact. I just would not rock the jeans :).

If you are a girl, I have no clue what business casual really means as I have seen things that I question during my professional career. Either way good luck!

I went with a suit. I'd rather be overdressed than take the chance of being under-dressed in that situation.

I have applied to Duke in Round 1 (1 - Nov). I was waitlisted without an interview.
I thought of sending an additional essay and updated resume (I have received one award in the meantime).
So far have not heard from Duke, if this is allowed or not. I think, some schools do not consider 'additional material'.

Does the additional material help? Any thoughts? :|

Did you apply R1 or EA? R1 decisions are not out until Feb 1. If you are on the waitlist for EA, I would definitely send the update. I know Duke accepts all updates about things like this when you are on the waitlist.

R1. (1 Nov. deadline.)

Well, for R1, I think, interview invites went out on 14 Dec. R2's interview invites go out on 8 Feb. Hence, I thought I would send material.

Duke has not specified any AdCom e-mail ID to contact / send material.

Oh on interview day they said you were waitlisted? Thats interesting. I would contact the admissions office and find out who your waitlist coordinator is (or if they have assigned you one). If you have one, I would send the update to them. If you do not have one, I would just ask if you can submit an update to your application. Good Luck.

I think I have confused you. I did not get interview invite. Status reads - 'not invited'. According to the mail I received from Duke on 14 Dec. this does not mean I won't get interview invite later in that round or later rounds. So, I guess that means 'waitlisted'.

So, I want to send additional material well before they send out interview invites on 8 Feb. I did call them, their phone lines are busy.

Thanks for reply.

My suggestion is for you to just email them. They are quick to respond to queries regarding sending in updates. And, yes, they do accept additional information.

Just received an e-mail ID from Duke to which I should send additional material. Fingers crossed.

I am surprised that people are still interviewing for R1. Anyone have any indication when R2 invites are going to start?

They did most R1 interviews earlier in January but the Durham, NC interviews are all around this weekend. It does seem very late - they must have already made a general evaluation of the applications and the interview will probably nudge you down one of two paths, assuming you don't curse at the interviewer or something dreadful like that. :) Just guessing at this though. Based on what other schools do, I bet Fuqua will probably make their internal admit decisions by next week and then the admissions director and B-school Dean will then tinker with the mix of actual admissions to get a well-rounded class.

And if Feb 8 is the date for R2, you can count on Feb 8. They said Dec 16 for the R1 applicants, and I got the notification email to check online at 1:53 PM EDT on December 16.

Guys I had my interview on Jan 6. Are we supposed to receive an update on the status of our application once the interviewer has submitted feedback or nothing changes on the application status page until we receive the final decision on Feb 1?

Anyone applied the HSM?

Yes, it's definitely a major reason I'm pulling for good news from Duke! Looks like a great program, though I'm still a little fuzzy on the details. Based on my conversations with a Fuqua alum, folks in the HSM go through all the same basic MBA stuff as everyone else and you wouldn't know they were HSM except by the electives they're taking and networking events.
