This maybe a rather paranoid question but do ya'll think it would be a problem if one estitmated the start and ending dates of employment. for example: I remebered starting my first job out of college in the begining of sept but didn't remeber the exact date so I guessed ie sept 5 20xx and ending say May 10 20xx. Do you guys think that would be a problem? Now I'm worried...

Only company HR has exact starting date record. I doubt companies release specific info like that to 3rd party (if much info at all). As long as your date was close to your first paycheck from that company, I think you are safe. (1 to 2 wks) :-D

No. If a school made a big deal out of that, the school needs to see a shrink.

hey, guys, i just realized that i'm no longer getting notification of activity on this thread. Goofy.

So these responses are probably outdated, but....

Application Feedback

Duke doesn't give feedback unless you went to one of the special weekends, such as W4W or the Workshop. I asked them this same question last year, and it's because they found that so few people re-applied.

Interview / Essay Consistency

Don't worry about changing your essays from your interviews - the interviewers don't take copious notes on exactly what you say. It's more about who you are. Large themes ("wants to do ibanking") may be noted, but no one will notice something like "wants to help classmates understand small business in developing nations" versus "wants to use her math skills to help classmates with non-quant backgrounds." Those are not mutually exclusive anyway.

Post Matriculation Survey

I think I recall getting a survey about my time between admission and starting school. I think it was more about finding out how much money i was making or something. seriously, you are in and can do just about anything at this point. (Well, they'd ding you maybe if you got sent to jail for that coke binge.)

Good luck to everyone in R2! Let me know when you come to visit - i like to G'Clubbers if I can.

Just give them a call and let them know you think you got the email in error. That way, from your end at least, it's been clarified :)

this contact might also be a good excuse to offer something to advance your candidacy. "Just wanted to clarify that blah blah blah....also, i thought i'd take this opportunity to let you know that last week i single-handedly rescued 50 orphans from a burning building. hope your new year is off to a great start!"

That's odd, Duke seems to have forgotten to include their scholarship offer in my admit package :-D

A bit belated response (was on vacation) but I got a scholarship offer letter, only it literally said "<amount>" where the $$$ was supposed to be. Weird. Time for an email to the powers that be.

I heard from a good friend currently at Fuqua that the internship search this year is a barren wasteland. John Deere, a huge destination previously for Fuqua interns, canceled all their intern interviews, which was pretty unprecedented. Everyone's scrambling to find something for this summer. Anyone wanna comment?

I'd think everywhere is like that...

My company is on a hiring freeze right now (medical device). Hopefully things get better within a year.

Obama is going to have a short honeymoon...

I spoke with my friend (a 1Y student) about 2 weeks ago. He is going the banking route and had been landing a ton of interviews. The day that I talked with him, he had interviewed that day with Prudential Capital and was interviewing with Credit Suisse on the following day. He's a straight shooter and he gave me the impression that things were looking decent for banking at Duke, especially relative to how dismal the financial markets are right now. That's just his story, he could be an anomaly, though.

From what I have heard going is tough this year, but I guess this is true at all schools.

Even last year, couple of my friends at Cornell and Chicago could manage jobs only at wee end of their last terms. But since then they are doing relatively well.
