Hey, can someone please explain the upside for applying to Duke’s Early action round?

Hi, there’s only one very critical upside to applying to Duke’s Early Action round: you will get an automatic interview within two to three weeks of submitting your application. This is not the case if you apply to Duke in Round One or Round Two.

The reason behind this is that Duke wants to encourage extremely competitive profiles to apply early—especially those who may have strong work experience and academic achievements but a lower GMAT/GRE score, or those with a strong GMAT/GRE score and work experience but a relatively low undergraduate CGPA.

This gives such candidates a fair chance to be equally considered through interview-based filtration, based on the overall merit of their profile.

You should apply in Round 1. According to the 5th point, scholarship considerations won’t significantly differ, atleast between EA and R1.

Hi, Fuqua doesn’t state anywhere about guaranteed interview invites in Early Action. Could you mention your source ?

So if Duke is one of the top 3 choices for me and I have a good gmat but the CGPA is low, but on the other hand scholarship is something which is important too.... So you suggest Round 1 for that?

As per their website:

How are interviews conducted?

Admissions interviews are by invitation, and interview decisions are released on a rolling basis. You will receive an interview decison by the published date for the round in which you apply.

Yeah, due to the binding nature of the EA round, you’ll have to attend if admitted (with or without scholarship).

Round 1 might be better in that case.

According to what’s stated on the school website, you can’t.

Ready to commit to Fuqua? You should apply during Early Action. If you're admitted, you commit to a binding agreement to attend Fuqua and must withdraw any applications submitted to other schools once you are offered admission to Fuqua.

You can check the class profile of your target schools.

FYI though: When schools publish class profiles and average work experience data, these numbers often reflect the amount of experience students have at matriculation (when the program begins). But for the admissions decision itself, what matters is the professional experience listed up to the point of application.

What matters most is not just the duration, but the quality, impact, and progression of your work experience. Be sure to focus on work ex impact! This matters more than the raw number of years in most cases.
