Thank you so much for the offer! I really appreciate your willingness to help.

I just had one concern around how we would maintain anonymity and confidentiality of the essays. Since everyone puts a significant amount of research and personal thinking into their applications, there is always a possibility that ideas, insights, or specific contribution plans from someone’s essay could unintentionally influence or be repurposed in another application.

This feels particularly relevant for schools like Fuqua, where contribution essays require a lot of school-specific research and insider insights that can be difficult to gather. Some of those ideas can be very unique to an applicant’s research and conversations with students.

So I was just wondering how you plan to ensure that the essays shared for review remain confidential and that the ideas or research within them aren’t reused elsewhere. Otherwise, I think it’s a great initiative, and thank you again for offering to help!

Why would I plan, if someone doesn't want anyone to review their essay, it is completely up to them. People should make their own choices.

All of the essays I have written for myself are very specific to my own story.


There are also various essays available online by real students that anyone can read and pick stuff up from if someone wants.

I agree that ultimately it is each person’s choice whether they want to share their essays for review. My point was slightly different, though, and I mean this with all due respect.

*If someone does choose to share, what assurance do they have that the content, ideas, research, or specific school insights in their essays will remain confidential and will not consciously or unconsciously influence another applicant’s (including your) essays?*

MBA essays are highly personalized, but some of the underlying ideas can still be repurposed. This is especially true for school-specific essays like Fuqua’s, where applicants may spend weeks speaking with students and researching very specific contribution opportunities. Once someone else has access to that research and those ideas, there is naturally some possibility of cross-pollination.

So I’m not questioning anyone’s intentions. I’m simply saying that choosing to have an essay reviewed and having clarity around how that essay will be kept confidential are two separate things.

Again, as you said we are all anonymous to each other, there is no guarantee anyone of us can give each other, you just have to believe on your own story

For example when you share your essay with a consultant there is no guarantee that he won't share it with some other student he is mentoring, there is no sign 'NDA'

People just need to believe in their own story and their own uniqueness.

I agree that there is ultimately an element of trust involved everywhere, even when we share essays with consultants. I think the distinction I was trying to make is slightly different.

A consultant is reviewing essays in a professional advisory capacity and is not themselves competing for admission to the same schools. Here, we are talking about applicants potentially applying to several of the same schools and therefore working on exactly the same prompts at the same time.

Of course, everyone has their own story and nobody can replicate someone else’s experiences. But essays are not only about the story. They also contain school research, specific insights from student conversations, contribution ideas, framing, and sometimes fairly distinctive approaches to a prompt. *Exposure to those things can influence another person’s application, even unintentionally.*

So yes, people should absolutely decide for themselves whether they are comfortable sharing. I was only raising the confidentiality angle so that anyone sharing their essays is conscious of that distinction and can make an informed choice.
