If I interview with an alumnus, and assume he submits the interview reports within 2-3 days, how long it usually takes the adcom to make a final admission decision? Any one had similar experience? Just curious and can't wait to hear the result... :)

Hey Joe Mahmah, pardon me for my lack of knowledge, but how does application through 'Consortium work'

The Consortium for Graduate Study in Management is an organization dedicated to advancing the placement of under represented minorities in the ranks of management. Applicants who meet the profile (someone who in the past has shown the desire to advance the organization's mission, whether they are URM or not) can apply to various member schools using one common application.

During the application, applicants are required to complete 2 core essays that get sent to every school being applied to. Each individual school also requires at least one separate school-specific essay.

All applicants are required to complete one "generic" CGSM interview with either an adcom at a school or an alum. Afterward, specific schools may require an additional interview; YSOM does not require an additional interview, however.

More information can be found on the website (https://www.cgsm.org) or in this year's Consortium thread: calling-all-fall-2010-consortium-applicants-merged-87799.html

do any R2 applicants who have already interviewed have any news on when we may be hearing back about final decisions? i understand that dings/wL may be released on the final date of 4/2, but in the past SOM has released admits a little early in sporadic batches. thanks.

I interviewed 2/17 and haven't heard back (my online status for interview hasn't been updated yet either). Maybe that's a ding/waitlist?

No. SOM's online application system is elegant, but the status it displays is meaningless. My status didn't change until the admit.

To everyone else, I swear you really don't want decisions to come out until decision day. It may feel like it's been a long time since you submitted or interviewed, but it will feel much, much worse if decisions start to trickle out and you've heard nothing. No one can assume they'll be one of the lucky few to hear early, especially since they're still figuring out scholarships, so the strongest applicants won't hear until that's sorted out.

Thanks for the advice orgninja -- it's hard not to regress to conspiracy theory when you've got all the time in the world :) I'm actually relatively calm / not worried (a little bit of cockiness, a lot of apathy).

I see you've got a Yale admit (along with many other schools). Have you decided on Yale?

You are so right. One single decision day consolidates 3 months of agony into a few hours. It's like taking off a band-aid, quick and painful.

I don't know about decisions coming out, but I do think rejections should come as soon as they are decided. Some of us are waiting to hear back from schools to make other life-changing decisions.

Yes, I've submitted my deposit.

While you didn't ask specifically why I've chosen Yale, that is an implication of your question, so I'll answer it.

Every school I applied to was relatively small, emphasized team-work, wasn't too finance oriented, and was located in a "college town." For personal and professional development reasons, that's what I was looking for.

I decided on Yale above the others for these reasons:

1. Emphasis on business AND society
2. Strength of the new curriculum (though Michigan's is also really good)
3. Superior employment situation
4. More impressive students and faculty (by far) in my campus visit
5. Superior global brand (I work for an international company and my Japanese boss said I could go to Michigan "any year" but Yale was different story. I don't think he's heard of Cornell or Duke.)
6. Stronger personal connection / feels right

orgninja: I like yale for all those reasons too, particularly the emphasis on society. I don't think I'll ever end up working full time doing social work, but it's such a relief from most MBA programs to have a balance. Hopefully we'll end up being classmates :)

FYI, from Michelle Vitali at Yale SOM Admissions today (3/12), from the Yale SOM Admissions Forum:

"We'll likely release some decisions next week, but can’t make any promises except to say everyone will hear by the end of the round. Keep in mind that the timing of your admissions decision isn't indicative of the strength or final outcome of your application. We review in random order and haven't finished the round yet." - mvitali
