Waitlisters- I've resolved to make a decision this week. If I withdraw from SOM, it will be by Fri.
It looks like you've got some great options in front of you -- Chicago and UCLA are amazing schools (I may see you at Booth)! Let us know which one you pick!

Got in off the waitlist at the end of last week. I'm already attending Stern, but that was a nice thing. Hopefully someone else on this forum gets my spot; I really liked Yale and would have felt very fortunate to attend.

Hi Nink,

How would you compare Yale SOM to Cornell Johnson?

I'm not Nink, but I interviewed at both of them and I'm headed to Yale. They have similar reputations, both are respected for finance and fine for consulting. The student body seemed similar at both. There's a huge difference in campus environment. Yale has an urban feel to it, while Cornell feels like a Big 10 school (similar to Penn State or Michigan with a big gorge in the middle). It is pretty easy to get from Yale to Boston or NYC since New Haven sits right on I-95, whereas at Cornell you're a solid half-day drive from anywhere. I've found that going to Yale gives you a kind of humorous wow factor that you might not get by going to Cornell. I would apply to both and not hesitate to attend either one.

Which favours younger applicants more?

Hi All,

@pook it looks like I got your last spot. I was contacted by Bruce earlier this evening and I could not be happier. I had already paid a deposit at another school, but given the proximity of SOM to my home and family, I am leaning towards SOM. However, I know orientation starts in a few weeks and I'm a little nervous about finding housing and getting everything else ready for the new term. I'll be getting all the relevant information soon, but can any admit advise me on what the orientation schedule is like, when classes start, etc?

That would be really helpful to me right now.

congrats on the admit! orientation starts wed aug 11th and ends august 19th. classes start august 23rd. we are required to take 2 online courses that are due this coming monday; they are relatively time consuming and i'd imagine that should you choose to accept, they'd give you an extension.

other than that, i think finding good housing in the new haven area shouldn't be too tough. check craigslist for "east rock" which is the area that many SOM'ers live.

Both schools will take top applicants with no work experience, Yale through the Silver Scholars program and Cornell through the regular admissions process. According to their BusinessWeek profiles, the average age of students at Cornell is 27 while at Yale it is 28. I would recommend applying to both of them and then see if the admissions department makes the choice for you.
